Who cares about the process when the end-result is an unacceptable failure rate in Shimano cranks? Are Red cranks failing with any frequency these days and I just didn't notice?

Unlike Shimano, I haven't seen/read/heard a single Red crank failing under what seems to be just normal use
perhaps i need to look/search more

Yes. I've been using 165mm since 2015 and no plans to go 170mm anytime soon. Im at the point where I can feel minute differences on the bike (and hey, it'll be my first brand new bike in 5-6yrs, I just want everything to be right). Im looking at going 165mm+left arm stages, but if I can find a cheaper alternative I'll do it.)

I hope the resale market on the eTap AXS is good. This could spell trouble imagining it, even more problems if Shimano decides to go 13-14sp and skips the 12 altogether

Carbon Ti told me they have AXS compatible chainrings however, it appears to be 4 hole & 5 hole config with bcd 110
i thought the Force AXS crank is 107bcd?

^ sounds like they're for normal cranks then. Aftermarket and/or power meter crank users rejoice!

As an aside, I saw the red axs group on Katusha's bikes at the Tour of Britain today and my impression was that it a) looks like rival, and b) had no red bits anywhere. I think a name change might be in order.
Their inner chain rings also had the kind of wear in the anodisation you get from dropping your chain

i see. so when they meant AXS compatible, it’s for the drivetrain itself like the chain and not for Force AXS crank itself.

I picked up my new bike with Force AXS yesterday, but I'm not overly impressed by the chain noise; it seems fairly loud.
From what I can tell from other youtube clips etc it should be much more quiet.

The shifting seems pretty spot on, but there's quite a "rasping" sound, almost like the chain is super dry.

Anyone else experienced this?

I recently had to fit a new AXS chain. First couple of rides with the factory lube on it was very loud - on Saturday I degreased it and applied Squirt - on yesterdays ride 100km with plenty of hills it was much quieter.

I like Squirt but find I need to re-apply after every 100km or so.

i just noticed that the mechanic installed the powerlock on the chain in the wrong direction. is there any issue or can i keep it?
i think these are disposable once removed and they dont come cheap

My chain had some chrome flakes coming off it from new. They didn't seem to be from he chain but from the manufacturing process. It was also louder than I expected it to be. I did a full degrease and used finish line dry on it and it was much better. Now after 600 miles it is pretty much silent. I feel like everything need to bed in and the rear derailleur has been dialed in too.

Powerlock isn't directional. As long as it's not upside down you are fine. Also, it is common practice to run the powerlock for the life of the chain even if you remove it several times. I've opened powerlinks 5+ times on a single chain and while the ears that lock it in place wear down they still hold it just fine.

With that said though I did have a KMC link wear out on a good dura ace chain and it wasn't from taking it off/on.

i am hoping some compatible parts come out soon like a colored KMC chain and lighter chainrings, maybe pulleys as well

The axs link has the same flat top design as the rest of the chain, so it is directional. If some other sram link was used, then it's wider than it should be and would have a too much side clearance.

I've now done 200km on my new bike with Force AXS, but it still seems pretty loud to me, especially in certain gears (significantly in 5th hardest gear and 3-4 easiest gears).

What I've tried so far:
Checked H and L limit screws on rear derailleur
Tried different B-tensions on rear derailleur
Tried all micro-adjusts on rear derailleur until it actually shifts
Check H and L limit screws on front derailleur
Fully degreased and applied Smoove wax/lube
Bought a new chain to test with one extra link
LBS assured me that the mech hanger was straightened when they built the bike.

Still it's pretty noisy.
Could the XDR free hub or the actual cassette be the culprit?

Any tips is greatly appriciated

hanger adjustment tool is essential, can't believe ppl would spend thousands on a bike but do not have a $70 tool. The hanger maybe straight when the RD was installed, it does not mean it is straight now.

I experienced the same exact thing. I sort of gets better-ish...

From one of the guys I know at Zipp: The cassette has a black anodized coating on it that gives the chain-cassette contact points a break-in period. Mine has gotten a bit quieter with 1500 miles on it, but I wouldn't call it quiet.

At the beginning of my newbie year, i assumed i can just buy a new hanger when the old one is out of straight.
What i learned was how easy it is to bend that thing. Take rear wheel off for flat tire fix, put the bike straight on ground. bike weight on rd-> slight bend.
That's how easy it is. $15 change.

Then the new RD hanger isn't even alway straight too. I had one that slight bend out of the shipping package.

Pay $70 once and you can true the rd to absolutely straight is worth it.
