You will need three additional cables and an additonal junction box: One cable per STI, a junction box where those two cables enter and another cable from the junction box to the battery.BigBoyND wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 3:21 amSo how many people are planning to run the optional wire from the shifters? Is it confirmed that the battery life doubles by doing so?
I don't mind running an extra wire before the BB is installed.
Weight wise, it looks like no wire is lighter: 2 x 1.8 grams (CR1632 batteries) vs. 16 grams (1600mm EW-SD300 cable)
I plan on going wireless. And - even though I planned on going for the DA lever set - I bought ULT in the end... I think I'd rather save those 93 grams by some healthy eating instead my ULT calipers with preinstalled hoses are even slighlty lighter than expected (didn't weigh the levers yet, since I didn't want to remove the plastic protection before I really install them)

So far, I only have the new battery, the new charging cable, electric cables and the levers+calipers set (from bike24). I preordered everything else from Rose. Despite the front derailleur... found no shop that has the FD available for pre-order. But in the end I could ride 1by for a while
Bike24 also has the 50/34 crankset available, but I am waiting for 52/36
To bad there isn't an equivalent of the shimano jc130 di2 y-connector cable for R9200/R8100.mapaha2810 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:05 amYou will need three additional cables and an additonal junction box

just looked it up in the manual again: there is a second option with "only" two additional cables. Just be aware that Hydro only has 2 ports so you'd forgo the satellite shifter capacity that diagram shows with the 3 port cable brake shifters.mapaha2810 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 5:21 pmjust looked it up in the manual again: there is a second option with "only" two additional cables. This is not an option, because hydro shifter have single e-tube port,mapaha2810 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 5:21 pmjust looked it up in the manual again: there is a second option with "only" two additional cables. See attachment
second port is non-e-tube basic port for non-etube satellite shifter:
Use new EW-JC304 mini-junction + 3x EW-SD300 wires (±EW-JC302) instead of EW-JC130 Y-splitter, it will look less bulky and cost the same:ms6073 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 4:47 pmTo bad there isn't an equivalent of the shimano jc130 di2 y-connector cable for R9200/R8100.mapaha2810 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:05 amYou will need three additional cables and an additonal junction box
you can connect 1600mm wire into EW-JC304 directly if this mini-junction will be placed outside of bar; or replicate Y-splitter function:
you can connect 1600mm wire into additional EW-JC302 passthru-junction that will be connected to EW-JC304 that is placed inside the bar

Can't understand why anyone would want to run the additional wires and junction box, seems counterintuitive to me.

- Longer battery life (charging interval)Kingstonian wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 9:26 pmCan't understand why anyone would want to run the additional wires and junction box, seems counterintuitive to me.
- No need to swap button cell batteries ever
- In theory, reliability of a wired system
You only run wires once, so it's no big deal
It would be extremely serious for Shimano to fail to recover a component (very expensive in relation to what it will cost to produce it) due to a connection failure during a wireless update.
