Numerous people have, there's a thread about it here I think titled something like 105 upgrades. I did it to mine and it works just fine

9100/8000 cages also work in 9200/8100 derailleurs... I put a 9100 in my 8150 and no problems

I have the R8100 RD with the shorter 9200 cage and this setup works with the 11-36t 105 cassette.

Thank you - I was wondering about this also.
On a related note, has anyone tried any of the 12 speed Shimano RDs with a cassette smaller than 11-30? There are options down to 11-25/26/28, 12-29, etc, from various sellers. If either the E Dubied or Recon 12-29 cassettes shift okay I'd be strongly tempted to get one.

There were unreleased 12s Shimano 11-28 cassettes so capacity wise I wouldnt be too concerned with going down to that preferably on the shorter Dura-Ace cage. Also in general Shimano's stated specs are fairly conservative and you can go one step up or down from their recommendations without too much issue. If the alternative cassette itself is up to Shimano shifting quality is another matter though from if the RD can support it.

Anyone have any preferred tweaks on their 12s Di2 setups?
Currently converting my all-road bike over as I've been running an 11s Dura Ace/GRX mix. Got R7150 shifters and the battery and an Ultegra cassette and Dura Ace chain ready to go.
Any reason to go for Ult/DA on the derailleurs over 105?

Interesting, I hadn't considered that. May be worth the extra £50!Eterna7m wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:05 amBig calves and small stance for the FDTifosiphil wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:28 amAnyone have any preferred tweaks on their 12s Di2 setups?

I have generally smaller calves (only 70kg) but I do use this bike for cyclocross and gravel racing so the opportunity to have the extra clearance is always welcome
Yes, I was aware of the canned 11-28 but IIRC Shimano have omitted it from recent RD specs. I'm not necessarily fussed about "Shimano shifting quality" as long as shifting is reliable and consistent, something there's not much agreement about here. I think one or two people have said the E Dubied cassettes are okay, but nobody has had anything good to say about Recon - which appear near-identical from pics.OtterSpace wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 3:34 amThere were unreleased 12s Shimano 11-28 cassettes so capacity wise I wouldnt be too concerned...If the alternative cassette itself is up to Shimano shifting quality is another matter though from if the RD can support it.

Correct. Also I have not tried it myself but just a few posts up people are saying the 9100 cage works with Dura-Ace & Ultegra 12s rd body. This cage is a ss short cage that technically maxes out at 11-30 so might be shorter than 9250 cage. However I think its more paralellagram design and b-screw adjustment that helps cassette size matching.
I'm currently investigating the 3rd gen SLR "aftermarket cassettes" & the specific one I have to test is an 11-34 ZTTO which I am comparing to a 11-34 Dura-Ace but I havent ridden it yet as I just got it this week. It seems like their design branched from SRAM 11s so shifting is likely good enough for what you are looking for. I personally wouldnt use any cassette with Al cogs on smaller cogs as wear life will just be terrible, I'm not sure if recon falls into this type but I know they have made full Al cassettes in the 11s era.satanas wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:28 amI'm not necessarily fussed about "Shimano shifting quality" as long as shifting is reliable and consistent, something there's not much agreement about here. Agreed about alu cogs, and also the few I used (briefly) in the distant past lacked any useful tooth shaping so shifted poorly - worse than Shimano UG. Both Recon and E Dubied do monoblock steel cassettes, which are the ones that would interest me, along with the similar appearing but cheaper ZTTO/Goldix cassettes. When Shimano went to 12 I was really hoping there'd be a 12-28 option (basically combining the 11 speed 12-25 & 12-28) but no dice.
