yeah I avoid it for the most part and wont stay for extended periods, but I try to setup my bike where it's usable... I'd much rather stay in the big ring if possible.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:18 amI was always taught to avoid it...No?spdntrxi wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:33 amI love big bigCampyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:14 amIt still would be nice to able to lock-out the big/big combo?

For this reason, I'm starting to love my 1x setup more and more. In late 2021 I moved to and now ride in an area that's either up or down (with gradients above 5%) in every direction but nothing sustained for more than 40-60sec. There's barely a flat road around. In these situations a 2x is frankly an annoyance and results in waaaay too much front shifting (and compo shifts in the rear).TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 11:08 pmCampyforever wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 10:00 pmyes, that was a typo
thanks! So this is by design?
I wish I could get it to happen on the other side as well
Meaning: no big+big....
Am i the only one who did not realize this was by design?
God, I could have torn my hair out....
Shifting into big-big is preferred to dropping into the small ring for very short, punchy ramps IMO, especially in a race scenario. When you shift up front you are making two big jumps and losing momentum in both shift directions... even if you are performing a very quick compensation "synchro shift."
On the other hand it pretty much never makes sense to be in small-small combos.
Small-small can cause the chain to rub the big ring. That's why the lock-out exists.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:14 amIt still would be nice to able to lock-out the big/big combo?

The Shimano combos are 50-34, 52-36 & 54-40.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:16 amHere is another DA 12 question:
There are only 3 "approved" chainring combos- 34/50, 35/52 and 42/54

that is the answer. That is the chainring sizes they make and for example what others make as well.. ie Carbon-Ti Evo rings. Does not mean others will not work. On my 11 speed bike I run 52/34 and so does my neighbor after he noticed I was having no issues.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:34 pmoK- so how about an answer?BdaGhisallo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:00 amThe Shimano combos are 50-34, 52-36 & 54-40.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:16 amHere is another DA 12 question:

What would happen if an aftermarket 40 is combined with a 50 or if a 40 is added to the 52?
I can speculate that shifting will not be any good.... but has anyone experimented with alternative
chainrings? Are there any rules to follow?

With respect to the idea of using big ring (or one) i mostly use my 50T and seldom small, that's why i use 50/36.
I'd rather use 50/37 as Sram AXS, but without the 10t cassette cog. I feel the 11t cog feels restrained already.
I wonder what next groupset update will be talking Sram. I hope it's more than the shifters design.
Will Sram ever progress away from JAW and use a motor instead (more Shimano styled).
Or will they use that patent of a chainset with the FD integrated!?

I have Miche 48-33 chainrings... and I have also used 48-35 on Sram Red GXP cranks, and the Ultegra 8150 derailleur is fine... better than the Dura-ace 9070 that I used before with 11sCampyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:50 pmIf this is unclear, god help us...CustomMetal wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:48 pmTo be fair to others it was worded poorly and did not read like thatCampyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:04 pmHuh? the original question was unclear, not your follow up asking about mixed chainrings... anyways you have to try and see.Campyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:50 pmIf this is unclear, god help us...CustomMetal wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:48 pmTo be fair to others it was worded poorly and did not read like thatCampyforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:04 pmHuh? I like to get Carbon-Ti Evo, but would prefer to run the 52/34 combo that I do now. My 11sp bike runs an extralite 52/34 with no issues. Per extralite this is not a approved combo.

Can the SM-PCE01 be used to update the firmware on 12sp DI2 components with the new Y79M9801T SD300 connector cable?
Or is the SM-PCE02 the only option these days?
