You are not looking good enough, there is a reflection on the top of the derailleur that makes it seem like it is smaller but it isnt

despite glare and reflections, the shape of the case is not the same... The "doubtful" is more rectangular

Tbh, I'd bet that this is the current DA front derailleur, it just looks different due to weird reflections.

I'm not an engineer but AFAIK wider automobile often has smaller aero drag (Cd) than narrower one. Somehow smaller frontal area does not translate to small drag directly.

Cd doens't take into account the area, you're looking for CdA (A being area)
A wider automobile can certainly have a smaller Cd than a narrower one; Cd represents shape with respect to "airflow" from a particular direction - automobiles are generally designed with a much smaller range of airflow directions in mind ('yaw') than bicycles experience, so a low Cd with head on airflow can turn into a much higher Cd with a small change in airflow direction - and the A increases too as the direction changes.....

It's the same case. You are letting the differing reflections in both photos trick your brain.

Like I said a page ago, I'd rather discuss Shimano's business practices than have to repeatedly debunk blurry photos where people only see what they want to see.

Tri guys have shown a 2w difference going from 2x to 1x. So there's gains to be made with the FD.

Aero rotors, maybe solid rotors for TT as you aren't braking very much?

Smaller disc calipers or ones that are more blended with the fork might make sense for TT.
If, by removing the FD entirely (plus any cables), and also the small chainring saves 2W, (which sounds reasonable), then just changing the shape of the 9150 FD would save maybe 0.01W......
