Shimano is targeting new dura-ace release for Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Olympics 2020 might fit the Shimano 4 year new product launch schedule mentioned in this thread. And Tokyo is Shimano's home country. But I don't think the Olympics have as much celebration for the cycling world as the Tour each year. Everyone announces new stuff right before the Tour each year. I just don't see the cycling world getting too excited about the Olympics to add any extra relevance to a product launch.

We need companies to hurry up and come up with aftermarket chainring solutions for 12 speed.
Only then I will swap to 12 speed. Not changing my crankset/PM ever again.

They might announce gravel stuff this time around. There were some rumors about it lately. Standalone gravel groupset or just some parts for ultegra, 105 and DA. Some new rear derraillers with a clutch and new subcompact 2x cranksets and 1x cranksets.
Aaaaand a new series of GRX gravel groupsets it was. Press embargo lifted today and articles plastered across all the usual sites.

Any rumors for the next dura-ace release? If it is in 2020 would it be at the Q1 if history repeats it self?

I though 7800 was launched in 2004? Regardless shimano has kept a steady cadence since at least 2008 with 7900. 2020 is a probable bet for next gen. Although we might look at the recent XTR launch as it’s delays as a counter benchmark?

It was a 2004 Product year release. If you recall, the first prototypes were spotted on Lance Armstrong's bike at the 2003 Liege Bastogne Liege. Shimano then released limited numbers of the prototype groupsets to various teams. Cipollini was one rider whose team was not issued any prototypes at that year's Giro and he was not pleased!

Product made it out into consumers' hands starting in the late Fall of 2003.

9100-9150 was announced at the end of June 2016, but 9150 weren't available until 2017. 9120 and 9170 came even later (June?).
M9050 was announced at the middle of May 2014, but wasn't available until the next May(!?).
9100-9070 was announced at the beginning of June 2012, but 9070 wasn't available until 2013.

So no way you can purchase the next Di2 in 2020.

AXS is wireless, that alone levels it out for me, and others it seems.

I know katanas are sharp but guns are wireless.
Get on it Shimano make katana wireless.
