FTP on hills vs flat - why different?

The problem with long hills is that, by definition, you’d gain enough elevation such that you’d lose some power due to decrease in available oxygen.bm0p700f wrote:My best ever power for 50minutes was on a flat windy airfield circuit. If I started at my FTP and matching HR, and kept riding at that HR for an hour, even with perfect hydration I’d lose 30-40w by the end. If I left from home, I’d be going from 6,400ft to ~11,000ft.
