Hi,

I'm fairly new to cycling so pardon the noobish question.

I have a Scott Foil with a bb86 bottom bracket with a SRAM gxp crankset installed in it. I'm planning to switch to Shimano cranks. Does shimano have a gxp type crankset or they just have 1 type of crankset but needs the right bb?

Thank you

All you need to do is replace the non-drive side bearing with a standard 24mm bearing and you can run any Shimano crank.

GXP runs a 24mm inner diameter drive side bearing with a 22mm inner non-drive side bearing.
Shimano runs a 24mm inner diameter drive side bearing with a 24mm inner non-drive side bearing.

bb86 is Shimano. Look on the non-drive side of your GXP Bottom Bracket, does the it have a bearing with a 22mm hole or does it have a 24mm hole with a 1mm thick removable ring? If it has that 2mm adapter ring, you don't need a new bottom bracket, you just don't use the ring.

Generally, most modern Shimano road cranks are the same size (24mm) . I believe they also make a 30mm version, but that would be far less common. The 30mm sizes are the counterpoint to Shimanos 24mm size. GXP is a workaround to use Shimanos standard by putting a spacer on one of the bearings.
