When will you buy eTap AXS?

I really like companies improving and evolving. But with this new SRAM stuff, it's marketing at it's finest. Can't change rings without buying an entire power unit wtf, another freehub body standard, another BB standard. Sorry but like others have said all this proprietary nonsense is getting out of hand. I'll be just fine with my Red 10 speed and RED 11 speed mechanical with rim brakes.

I think most of the companies shot themselves in the leg.
RED (or Dura-Ace) is damn nice and proven groupset already, and there's no big reason to upgrade to AXS if yours works fine.
It would make more sense to upgrade from lower-end groups: Force or Ultegras for example. But if you own RED and happy with it - just ride it and enjoy

If Force AXS is 11-speed (retains the same mechanical components so I don't need to buy into their new expensive chains, casettes, rings), and cheaper than Di2, I'm definitely on board. I'm not the biggest fan of mechanical groupset/hydraulic disc because I have slightly smaller hands and I'd prefer the slimmer hoods you get with electronic shifting. I also think the AXS configuration and functionality in the app is better than Shimano. Although, that could be an easy upgrade by Shimano.

I really thought this would be an improvement on the first gen etap....instead it's just a mess of electronics and more compatibility issues such as needing an xdr hub. Not to mention the throw-away power meter when you need new chain rings. Campy did 12 speed right, and I think Shimano will roast sram when the next gen arrives. Bike Radar gave etap 5/5 stars btw....I wonder how much bias there is in that review.

I have three bikes with eTap.
Two road bikes with 2x, and one gravel bike set up 1x.
I also have two Quarqs and two P2M NGeco PMs.

I waited to jump to 11-speed until I was ready to convert everything. I like being able to swap wheels/cassettes/components/etc between bikes if I want to.
The 12-speed aspect is what will prevent me from buying AXS more than anything else as it would be a HUGE effort to upgrade/part out what I have to converge on 12-speed/AXS everywhere. Combine that with likely moving to disc everywhere for the next round of bikes and it's a no-go in the short term.

Force AXS might change that slightly. If it retains some backwards compatibility and/or comes at a much more reasonable price point, I might conside moving to it for the next bike build. (I'm really jonesing to move from my Allez Sprint to an Allez Sprint Disc...)

Dub is not a new BB standard. its been out for MTB for a while now.

If I could affrod I ight try it as the cassettes look good. However I dont need it and I dont have a disc brake road bike for flat mount calipers.

XDR is just a freehub swap. Expect a good number of hub manufactruers to offer a freehub that can be swapped in soon.

In light of the SRAM disposable power meter-chainring movement, I think I'm going to wait until the next SRAM product cycle where SRAM decides to shave weight by removing the ability to charge the derailleur batteries. Run out of charge? Buy a new derailleur.

To be fair, that would require spectacular battery performance OR super low pricing, which would be awesome!
They'd need something like 2-year battery life or to halve the pricing to get people to swap derailleurs every other season.

I kind of drool at the idea of completely service free derailleurs for...._years_.

The main reason I went to eTap is that I hated the every 4-5 month dance of replacing cables, tune, ride, adjust, ride, adjust, adjust, ride, adjust....err, time to replace again.
I could have gone to Di2, but chose eTap due to lack of wires to fish.

AXS just makes 11 spd eTap look really really good. Personally I'm fine with 9070..

Seeing the new eTap AXS I'm even more pleased and happy with my 1. gen. eTap groupset.

I'll do exactly what I did with the last version of eTap. I will find a bike with it already installed on the used market for a good price and then buy that. Swap the parts to whatever frame I am riding and sell that bike for a similar price.

Personally i see more of an evolution between Etap gen 1 to Etap AXS then i do talking Shimano 9070/6870 to 9150/9170, 8050/8070.

I would probably pick Etap AXS as my groupset between all of them if i bought a new bike (road bike).
For a gravel, i would pick Shimano Di2 Ultegra.

I am that kind of a guy who like simple.
So i find Etap (gen 1) an interesting design, with YAW and the simple shifting (shifters).
It's an electronic groupset which is kind of having the simplicity of a mechanical groupset.
There is really nothing that need software updates. I say this as in this is positive!

The AXS system goes away from this.

The only minus with Etap gen 1, is the FD and possible chaindrops.

Only thing i dislike with all 12*2 groupsets would be the 3 different freehub bodies we need.
For Etap AXS, it would be the POWER METER option, as it requires the spider/ chainrings to be changed.
Running the new crank as a standard crankset, i think it looks stellar.
