I'm genuinely sorry for everyone complaining a 50x11 is "too big." Just because you're slow AND can't sprint doesn't have anything to do with the rest of us.

I prefer a 52/36 chain set and regularly use the 11T on fast rides and in races.

The system is pretty interesting though. Being able to move to 1x to 2x. They really built it out to cover the current trend, pretty good move on their part. Too bad it's super expensive. I'll just buy the old eTap on cheap when people start to dump it.

I'm looking for a Sram 1190 11-32 cassette. A couple of years ago I picked one up for $200. Now the cheapest price I can find is $248. For those in the U.S. where do you get your cassette? $248 plus tax is a bit hard to swallow. The alternative is an Ultegra which is $58 plus tax at my LBS. But the Ultegra is 89 grams heavier. Thanks.

Did anybody read the Bike Rumor ETAP AXS review? It completely omits any type of actual criticism or even mention of the major drawbacks that we've outlined in this and other forums. It actually says the one piece chainring/crank + power meter is a benefit! I assume these websites are basically paid sponsors which is unfortunate for those of us that actually want the best components on our bikes.

Don't know what a MAMIL is but... 53x12 is 117 gear inches. 31.3 mph at 90 rpm. 50x12 is 110 gear inches. 29.5 mph at 90 rpm. Unless you are a Professional racer, or pedaling real hard going down a steep hill, you are not going to see 29, 30, 31 mph on a bicycle.

Sorry, but no, just no. 31mph = 50kph. I hit 56kph on my commute's downhill without pedalling (not that steep either). Will easily hit 40kph on a group ride without pushing particularly hard on the flats, and 50kph when the boys decide to have a go (so it's not me being a genetic freak and super strong). I've spun out a 50x11 on a downhill, and I'm a spinner.

I'm not a racer, just your average amateur cyclist that is rapidly approaching 40

I'd love to have a 11-32 casette and a 34/52 up front, but sadly you cannot do 34/52 chainrings (although a friend runs it on eTap and claims it works just fine. I'm tempted to try)

Hard to say! Who knows what AXS cost in about 2 years. Kind of depends on a few things. Will 11-speed be available along side, or will it be phased out!?
Hows the evolution of wheels / hubs going to from here on and about 1-2 years!?

If 11-speed is about to be phased out, all will be on 12-speed sooner or later. But as prices are now, it looks like it'll be for big pockets only.
Aren't the rim brake groupset without power meter around 3000 Euros or so?

Even MAMILs who can spin have troble keeping their place in a double paceline with a 12 as the smallest cog with classic (that would be standard, semi, and compact) cranks.

I'm heading to wireless 1x. New cranks is absolutelly no-go. OK. I think that I have two options.

First is SRAM Red AXS with aftermarket or custom NW chainring. Will work. But rear lowest gear is up to 33. Dull.
Second is little crazy but I like it. The key is newly releazed Rotor 12 speed cassettes (like 11-36: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 27, 31, 36) and these cassetes compatimble to Eagle 12x. Huh! SRAM Eagle AXS RD + SRAM Red AXS shifters + Rotor 12 speed cassette + *normal* chain + normal cranks.

Hmm. Are there any flaws?

I'm not buying a groupo with a disposable PM ever.
I also don't want to buy a $70 chain every month or two and $350 cassette twice a year and $800 chainring and PM combo twice a year. If like me you ride 20,000km a year the current prices seem to be 2,650 a year. That's just madness, and yes the prices will come down, but that's a months salary just to buy drivetrain parts for my bike WTF, especially the intial purchase price. I actually love SRAM stuff but I'll never be buying this as a groupo, certainly the cranks are a no. It's called RED, but colored silver, ugly. More than happy with my force 22, may eventually upgrade to SRAM red 22 etap.

If Rotor cassetes and chains are indeed compatible to Eagle RD, and you have a 1x12 crank, then this sounds like a clever idea.
Have you also considered going full Rotor, 1x13 hydraulic?
