Specialized S-works Tarmac SL6 bottom bracket question

Hi everyone,

I've just purchased an S-works tarmac sl6 frameset with the default ceramic speed OSBB bottom bracket in it.
I'm planning to finish the setup with Sram Red Etap and a Quarq Dzero Power Meter Crankset.

I've made some research to find the best answers about spacers, new bbs, etc. but I ended up asking it here because I hope someone has first-hand experience.

Should I purchase the new Quarq with the BB30 or GXP version? Should I change the default OSBB ceramic speed bottom bracket to make this setup work or are there some spacer packages available which solve the issue for me?

I 'think' you just want the BB30 Quarq, and run it without the large NDS spacer.

Again, not entirely sure on the BB setup, but could be a CeramicSpeed PF30 with 24mm adapters.

OSBB is essentially a PF30 (30mm spindle, 68mm bearing width). quarq BB30 is essentially a 386evo (30mm spindle, 86mm bearing width). So the bb30 quarq + 18mm of spacers is the way to go (they will come with the quarq).

Oh, this sounds cool! So does that mean that I don't have to buy anything just the BB30 Quarq which provides spacers and the original OSBB bb in the frame will work with it?

Yep. Both use a 30mm spindle. Quarq is just bb386 compatible. Think there should be a 11mm drive side, 5mm non drive plus a threaded spacer to do preload. Works out to be a bit over 18mm.

Yep. Or you can buy a C-Bear bottom bracket which is machined with the spacer as part of the body (less moving parts, less squeaking)...

Just go with the BB30 Quarq, don't go changing the bearings as you'd be junking £200+ worth of ceramic bearing.

I have the quark zero with a gpx spindle. I used the cbear bb. You just use the wavey washer with this set up. No noises just works. I sold the supplied ceramic speed bearings on eBay and they paid for the cbear

Exactly what I did (other than skipping the Quark meter on the GXP Red spindle). Very pleased.

OSBB on the Tarmac SL6 is a standard BB30, not PF30. Except that I agree with you

What’s even more crazy is the Cannondale Super Six Evo Hi-Mod is PF30a but has a BB30 logo on the frame.

Some time ago OSBB also had a 61mm shell width. Very bad idea.

No matter if the frame is OSBB old style like Calnago writes about, if it's BB30, PF30 och PF386 they use the name OSBB. A bit confusing if you can't see the frame yes.

My SL6 has now + 8000 km's done, in fair conditions, when it rains i'm on my mountainbike. After this mornings ride when i heard some creaking noise, i checked my crank's for play on the BB.
It seems my Ceramic speed is already wasted??
Is this normal for Ceramic Speed?
