PF86 Crank Options

Hello,

I recently purchased a BMC Teammachine SLR01 Rim brake and planned on using my Sram Red bb30 crank. However I overlooked that the spindle is far to short. My friend informed me that the Sram Red bb386 crank is basically a Force crank that has been rebranded as "Red" and ive seen on here that the weight seems fairly heavy and I plan on adding power so my options seem a little sparse.

I have a full Etap kit and Id like to not put a shimano crank on (as good as they look). I've focused on the Easton EC90 SL and getting their CINCH power meter as this will fit well on my bike, seems to be pretty light, and has some weight weenie points. I just don't know much about the crank and dont want to sacrifice ride quality/shifting to much for grams.

SRAM has a pressfit GXP bb86 bottom bracket assembly. I guess I would get that and then the crank would fit fine? Looks like from the SRAM website its about a 50 gram difference in weight between the two. And according to fairwheel the Easton crank with chainrings comes in around 656 grams thats with the power meter. Im not sure what the gxp red with quark and rings would weigh in at. Id assume around 730ish.

I'm not a mechanic by any means if you couldnt tell!

That's the theory...
Manufacturer have been improving this for years and now, I think they have the solution.

For me it works very very well with BB86 Canyon / CyclingCeramic 41/30 and Rotor 2Inpower

Worked great for me with a praxis chain set and praxis bearings.

It may work for you but the rating for a 6706 bearing (30mm in a BB86 shell) vs a 6805 or 6806 bearing is about 75% less. So all other things being equal, you will get 75% less life. Or alternatively, you can only put in one-quarter of the wattage to get the same life.

The limitation is by geometry not material.

I can’t find the size and I can’t remember what it read, but it’s not a 6706

I use AITA ceramic bb86 gxp bottom bracket, one of the lightest. Stages is the lightest option with red gxp cranks. Pricing is not excessive compared to THM, which may be a bit lighter with their powermeter..

I was using it as an example. It's either that or a ground down 6806, so the sidewall is thin.

Looking at the photograph, it's a ground down 6806.

If you want to use SRAM Red just got the SRAM Red GXP and a GXP bottom bracket. Basically the same weight as the BB30.

Sensible option is a Quarq, SRM origin with 24mm spindle and chainrings of choice if you want it to be spendy.
