Full endeuro mode. Darimo bars and post arrive in 2 days!
Note to self: zipp cork pads work just great, and i got them toed in properly and no (longer) braking vibration in the rear. Rim brake setup is a bit of an art, and so satisfying when you get them you your personal tastes.

Looks like a windy place, Port George (NS?) close to the ocean .
Any probems handling the bike with side winds or wind bursts ?
I would put aero bars on that thing if you plan on riding in full "aero-ness" for long rides.

Nova scotia indeed. Local roads just repaved last year so port george and the loop around it was great.
The wheels do great in the wind. The only time i get nervous is on high speed descents when i get a sudden gust of wind. Mind you, i assume we all get the same feeling.
I do have profile design clip ons, but the above setup allows for some food, extra water, and tube/tools with minimal aero hit. I really want a felt ar (watching daily for new model) or felt ia for more aero riding.

Well, today is my birthday, and look what arrived from Darimo!
Bars (40cm) and post both are custom with 12k carbon to (close) match my bike (20k). The cosmetic carbon added a bit of extra weight (ud is +8g) as did custom drilling in my bars to fix the brake cables.
Here are the weights of the oem post clamp and post. I will weigh the bars later.
So all in, with the post/clamp/bars, i have saved 254g, or 0.56lbs.

My post is a bit heavier than expected (custom 280mm at 72g vs 71g for 300mm) given i crushed it with a bad torque wrench, and darimo fixed it with internal reinforcement for free. My old pro torque wrench was torquing 2nm too much (not good!).
So how stiff are the bars? Well my very scientific flex test (grab the unmounted bar by the drops and push/pull them) says that they are a bit more flexy than the 3t ergonova bars they replace.
Check out how thin the darimo bar is vs the 3t.

Tri rig styx aero skewers have arrived. Light, and obviously high quality. I will try them out tonight.
I also get my garmin vector 3s pedal from garmin. They sent me a knew one. Updating firmware... crashed out first time. Successful second time... but when i looked to see if firmware updated, it wanted to do the same firmware update again. Sigh.
The skewers look very clean!
Note that i got custom drilling in my bars in addition to the custom carbon. This way i can show off all the tops with unwrapped bars, yet maintain an aero and neat cable routing via one small zip tie on each end. Very happy with the result.

I guess I have not updated in a while. I think I passed a significant landmark in the upgrading of this bike: no original parts now remain. I found a 2017 Felt FR1 (team) rim brake frame. It was used by a continental team in europe (they hated it apparently due to the rear chainstay brakes not playing well with sram levers). This is the successor of the f series.
The frame was 880g give or take (size 51), and the frame 280g (i forget). Reach is marginally shorter, stack is higher (allowing me to get my old position by slamming it). Looks great also. There is more standover, and thus more darimo post showing. Lets see how much flex I get.
I upgraded to g4 ee brakes (standard up front, direct mount chainstay in rear). I am still sorting cable management/lengths out front. Setup was a little easier than the g2 ee brakes i had. The main difference was easier centering vs the rim.
First ride will be tomorrow. Hopefully the rear brakes do their job without rub. The high spoke brace angle of the carbon ti hubs will be put to the test.
Proper artsy fartsy photos come later.

Well, here it is in all it's glory: my Felt FR1 (team) bike/frame. I did a proper 80k ride today after dialing in the shifting yesterday.
First impressons is that it is less harsh than my old f series frame. The laterally stiff, vertically compliant cliche for every new frame is true for this one. It also feels more confident on the descent. I wont lie that sram and chainstay mounted brakes made me nervous... but the g4 ee brakes outperform my g2 ee brakes on the seatstays. I am not sure why, but it feels great (same pads, same basic setup, same rims, etc). I presume the g4's are better suited to wider rims. And no pad rub.

So, the parts:
- 2017 Felt fr1 team frame and fork, size 51
- fsa headset and top cap.
- wren -17 degree 90mm stem
- darimo 400mm road bars
- deda bar tape
- raceware garmin mount and garmin 130
- jagwire elite sealed brake housing/cables
- g4 ee cycleworks brakes (standard mount front, direct mount rear chainstay)
- zipp tangente cork pads
- ebay china clinchers with 18k carbon, 25mm brake track, 28mm maw width, 56mm depth. 20/24 cxray spokes, carbon ti xhub hubs
- 25c gp5000 tires, vittoria latex tubes
- tririg aero skewers
- carbonwerks carbon bottle cages x2 with elite fly bottles
- darimo sub4 seatpost clamp
- darimo t1 seatpost with dyneema saddle mount
- berk lupina round rail, 132mm
- garmin varia radar
- garmin vectra 3s and xpedo sl ti pedals
- wheels manufacturing bb386 bottom bracket
- stram red etap 11 speed groupset (11-32, wifli rear derailier, chain, 34/50 chainrings, 170mm crank with removable spider, front derailier, mechanical brake hoods)
I know this is Weight Weenies and all, but that bike looks dialed in. I would ride it as is and enjoy. But a Darimo stem would work as well if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket You could probably also go with shallower, lighter wheels.

Yeah, this has become a proper bike. I have been riding it since day one, just upgrading as I go. So other than the upgrades mentioned, and trimming the steerer, I am finished.
I had mavic r-sys slr wheels, but they are not aero. My 1500g wheels are pretty light for 56mm clinchers, and they are quite aero. So although they may not be the lightest choice, they are the faster choice... which is key.

As ridden. Nobody cares how much the bike weighs if it cannot be ridden that way
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:
Aero bike | GC bike | GC rim bike | Climbing bike | Climbing rim bike | Classics bike | Gravel bike | TT bike | Indoors bike

With our without water bottles? Should they be full or empty? Not trying to be difficult but just clear.
I generally weigh my bike minus bottles. That is my ready to ride weight. I then subtract weights for things like the garmin, garmin radar, spares, and that is the "stripped weight". Then i subtract weights for the bottle holders, pedals, and that allows me to compare to oem weight numbers.
The irony of it all is that taking one less bottle is the same as thousands of dollars in light parts.
