Can I use 2014 or earlier Record crankset (UT, 11sp) with 2015+ Chorus components? I know there is no problem with mixing and matching Record and Chorus components from the same era, e.g. after 2015. But what about mixing older and newer ones? What are the compromises or potential problems other than the look?

You should have no problem with an older crankset. It's only the derailleurs that need to be matched.

Yup, not a problem. There’s some differences in the tooth profiles and pickup pins along the way but spacing is all the same between the pre 2015 and post 2015 11sp cranks... up to the HO versions introduced with the disc brakes last year.

I discovered one day while trying to troubleshoot the shifting on my wifes bike that you can run a 10 sp Record RD with 11 sp SR levers which kind of surprised me cause last I checked you couldnt do that with Shimano.

Yes you can, but only with the pre 2015 version of 11 speed levers
