Hi all,

I am looking for some assistance in purchasing a road bike for the 2019 season. I predominantly ride on flats whilst doing some hills sessions here and there.

The two options I am currently comparing:

- 2018 TCR ADVANCED SL 0 DISC DA (https://www.giant-bicycles.com/au/tcr-a ... sc-da-2018)
- 2019 TCR ADVANCED SL 1 DISC (https://www.giant-bicycles.com/au/tcr-a ... -sl-1-disc)

The cost $$ of these bikes are the same, given Giant dont provide too many details about the specs are any Giant bike experts able to share which would be the better option?

There is plenty of detail there.
Do you want last year's colour with hydro DA Di2 and better wheels, or this years colour with hydro ultegra di2 and not as good wheels?

The 2019 SL1 does come with power meter. Get this if you don't have one.
Giant Propel Advanced SL Disc 1 / BMC TM02 < Propel Adv < TCR Adv SL Disc < KTM Revelator Sky < CAAD 12 Disc < Domane S Disc < Alize < CAAD 10

I’d say don’t go TCR. The Propel is much more efficient, especially in any kind of headwind. Say if you ride 20-25 kph into a 20 kph headwind, that’s 40-45 kph apparent speed and the aero bike is noticeably faster.

2019 SL1:
+ Comes with a built-in PowerMeter
- Has DT Swiss 3-pawl hub and Sapim CX-Sprint spokes (still a solid wheelset though)

2018 SL0:
+ The 42mm deep wheels are a better all-rounder imo (although the difference is going to be miniscule)
+ Has DT Swiss ratchet-style 240 hub and DT Aerolite spokes = lighter wheels (although they slightly are deeper, so same weight probably?)

Both:
Everybody's expecting a new generation of the TCR coming out for the 2020 model year.

Thought the powermeters were a 2019 thing, but you're right.

Thanks for the replies all, I have had a look at the links which have been helpful but didnt shed much light on the components of the bikes I am interested in.

Both colours are attractive and doesn't phase me.

I like that the 2019 bike has the 42mm dish in the wheels.

2018 also has a power metre, and I believe it is a dura ace power metre? How much better is the dura ace over the ultegra and is it the current model? This is the detail I am looking for.

If they bikes are the same price I'd go with the Dura Ace bike, everyday of the week. It's lighter and more polished.

Maybe you need to have a read about the difference between DA and Ultegra. Start off with an article like this.

That was the right choice.

I concur. While I like the deeper wheels better as well, going with the DA over the Ultegra and the lighter SLR-0 wheels instead of the SLR-1's I think is the better choice.
