*Tour Aero Bike Tests*

Well, at least I’m not bald. And as for my username, it’s kinda stuck... but sometimes I wish it wasn’t as brand centric as it is. I think I’ve told the story of my username before but just as a refresher... my first name is Calvin, but mom calls me Calvin for short . Most call me Cal. Anyway, I used to work on this guys bike who would come over and ogle my Colnagos. So, he just started calling me Calnago, and that’s all he ever called me. Ha... so when I finally one day sat down and registered on WeightWeenies (speaking of embarrassing names), that’s the name I chose. I guess it’s at least a little more unique than “username”. Anyway, it is what it is. When people ride with me, they sometimes refer to it as a CalZone ride. Or... “did you get sucked into the CalZone”, meaning they succumbed to a an all day event where at least 50% of any elapsed ride time is spent off the bike, over lunch, beers, whatever. It’s what I call my 50/50 stat and I’m quite proud of it. Ok, back to talking about aero... whoosh!

Use something to make it faster going bald.. Bald is more Aero even is marginal gain.. But more marginal gain....
Another Dentist bike owner here (Colnago C60), and still not aero (bald), enough (BTW here Dentist ride Specialized and Pinarello's, Colnago is not something special to them.. Not Aero enough for them (it's true ))

A local doctor rides a fat bike to work. He also has a nice road bike.3Pio wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:54 pm

Yeah, my balding still needs work. Like my biking, it is only part way there. Till then, I figure the ultimate in aero hair may actually be the mullett. Short on the sides for smaller frontal area. Party in the back to form an aerofoil shape.
“Hey watch me shed karman vortices!!!”
The mullett may be a marginal gain, but i argue it is the ultimate in marginal gains!

Did we ever get clarity on test protocol: I.e., the system six is slightly faster than the venge when each are tested with the same Zipp wheels?
It's all very well testing these bikes BUT what I want to know is...........
1. How well they do in crosswinds. Because they all frankly look terrifying if you get a 50 knot crosswind. I hate being blown around. Aero forwards looks very sail-like side on.
2. How much worse a climbing bike would be if it had deep or medium deep wheels on it and an aerobar with internally routed cables.
Still on the fence with the entire aero-bike concept TBH.

50kt crosswinds would be terrifying on any bike. The aero bike would probably handle low to medium yaw crosswinds better than a round tubed bike. Maybe at extremely high yaw, aka pure crosswind, it would become noticeably worse.

This. Though you might want to step the 63/65 deep wheels down to something like a 50. 60+ is a bit extreame for an everyday wheel IMHOTobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 12:16 am50kt crosswinds would be terrifying on any bike. I'm still wondering how I would stay upright in 50kt crosswinds on any bike.
