I'm prepping my bike for the next season and I have a question about my carbon rims.

Are they gone or can I do another season with them? Is the braketrack wearing out to far, I can feel that it's not flat?

Can't help with your question, but I'm curious. How did you wear them out like that? I read somewhere that with carbon wheels, the brake track doesn't wear like aluminium does.

They look kinda shot to me. It looks like a braking surface that was bonded to the rim which has worn through versus the brake track being an integral part of the rim itself. I suspect braking isn’t that great at this point? If they were mine I’d be binning them and moving on to something else. But same question as previous poster. What kind of use have they had up to this point?
Carbon will wear the same way as an alloy rim in that eventually there will be a recess, it’s just that carbon is so much harder than aluminum and takes much longer to get to that stage.

I used them in dry weather with black prince brake pads. The front rim is not so bad like this. I think they have 20 000km or more.

Is it clincher?

2nd pics:
It's probably overheated, because there are some bump on the brake track.

I think that some alu wheels are much more wear then this carbon rim after 20.000km but it also depends of the hardness of the brake pads they used.

20k flat road is penuts.

If you like fast descents and weigh above average I'd say that wheel has held up well for 20k.

Easy way to check: mount a larger tire and inflate to 2x your normal riding tension. Then let it sit overnight. If it doesn't explode then you're good. Safety factor of 2. Aircraft industry is only 1.5.

So you're waiting for a midnight explosion?

How about measuring the flex in the sidewalls with and without high pressure? Would that indicate any weakness?

The wheels are becoming more and more dangerous to descend on as they age, but on flats maybe they're ok for another 20k.

Some people weigh nothing and ride only flats. They might jump on the opportunity to buy these rims if you lace new rims on there.

If you have to ask then you probably already know. Bin them and move on.
