http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/fuj ... n-road.htm

$1400, Ultegra R8000 except for the crank.

http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mot ... al-pro.htm

$1500 but gets you the crank, too.

Not meant to be offensive to the OP, but isn't there better forums for this kind of question?

So you want plastic derailers instead of carbon fiber?

Hi -not sure what you mean by that? I am pretty sure Shimano R8000 Ultegra has carbon fiber and high quality construction pretty much on par with Dura Ace.
Can you clarify your post?

@joejack951
those are pretty good deals, that Immortal Pro is tempting me as most other full R8000 Ultegra bikes are at least $1800 and Up
what's wrong with the $1527 USD planet X bike other than the nasty decals and dated fork vs the $1499 Immortal Pro or Transonic from bikesdirect.com ?

hmm never mind, the planet x is only available in Large - I need a small. Also, it has wire bead tires and super heavy wheelset vs DT Swiss and folding Continentals on the Motobecane Immortal Pro at bikesdirect

Performance Bikes has some Fuji, Kestrel, and Ridley models with Ultegra for under $2K and often have promotional buyer's club rebates for 30% back in store credit for other merchandise.

It's not. There is no carbon fiber on RD-R8000. The inner link and lower knuckle are plastic like R7000. DA and RD-6800 uses aluminum and carbon respectively.

If it were on par with dura ace, then dura ace wouldn't exist.

+1, great suggestion. Also, Black Friday deals from on line sellers, especially in the UK (they often ship free to the USA) like Merlin, Chain Reaction \ Wiggle, look around

Probably similar plastic to the glass/carbon fiber reinforced nylon Shimano uses as the bases for their shift levers on Dura Ace and Ultegra. It's good stuff. Many of us trust our faces to it every time we ride.

No, it's just Shimano being cheap and trying to get away with increasing margins under the radar. It's aluminum and carbon on DA and old ultegra. It's plastic on R8000. It's just a downgrade because they can get away with it. If it were an upgrade, it would be on DA, but it isn't. Aluminum/CF construction was on last generation, there's really no excuse for it to be downgraded on R8000, well except margins of course.

Plastic is fine on lever bodies because there's so much excess material used just to get a form factor that's comfortable to hold and lever bodies require relatively complex shapes. The form factor of road levers requires material used in excess of structural requirements or weight optimization. If you made those out of aluminum, you'd wouldn't be able to optimize for weight because you would need to maintain a minimum wall thickness , interfaces for moving parts to mate with, and a form factor with enough volume and a comfortable shape. ST-4700 were considerably heavier than ST-7700 just because aluminum could not be optimized for weight in that application.

If you want to see Shimano's work using injection molded plastics to optimize weight and cost when there's no ergonomic considerations involved, take a look at their cracking DA cassettes. Take a look at Walmart bikes and the "MTB" levers with plastic clamps are awful because of flex. Tektro road style knockoffs are fine simply because the design mandates that much more plastic being used.

I agree Performance has great prices & I just grabbed another Fuji Roubaix Elite frame from them
But..............That 10% members club rebates in credit & sometimes 30% is no longer since they filed
bankruptcy/chapter13??
