Hi.

Long time lurker.

I'm starting a new project using an S-works SL5 tarmac frame. 've put together a parts list and weights and to be honest, it's coming out quite heavy at just under 7.4kg for a 56 and I'm a little disappointed.

Am i missing something? Have I made some obvious errors in my choices? I realise the C38 wheelset is not the lightest, but somehow I thought I would be able to get under 7kg without too much problem.

Here's the full build:

S-works Seatpost 206g
S-works Tarmac SL5 Frame 1104g
S-works Tarmac SL5 Fork 387g
headset 101g
S-works SL 100mm Stem 105g
S-Works Shallow Bend Carbon 40cm Handlebar 180g
Roval C38 Wheelset 1550g
Rotor Aldhu 52/36 170mm crankset 564g
Dura ace 9100 11-28 Cassette 192g
Dura ace 9100 Chain 249g
2 x Hutchinson fusion 5 Galactic 25mm tubeless tyres 480g
Tubeless valves 20g
Tubeless sealant 60g
Supacaz super sticky Kush bar tape 96g
S-works Power 143mm saddle 159g
2 x Bontrager XXX bottle cages 38g
Ultegra 8070 di2 shifters 360g
Di2 battery 50g
Ultegra 8070 calipers 280g
Ultegra 8070 rear mech 242g
Ultegra 8070 front mech 132g
2 x Dura Ace Ice Tech Freeza Centre-Lock Rotors 188g

7.4kg is super light for a disc bike!

The days of the easy 6kg build are long gone.

I had a 56cm Spcialized Pro (FACT 10R version) rim brake frame last year, which came in at 15-20 grams lower than your frameset. With a mix of Ultegra 6800 and DA 9000, Fulcrum Carbon wheels and Ritchey WCS finishing kit I had it at 7,0 kg including pedals, so I'd say your weight for a disc brake bike is rather good.

In the most recent German 'Roadbike' they test a few high-end disc brake bikes, including the SL6 S-Works, which comes in at 6,7kg (without pedals) at a retail price (in Germany) of 10500 EUR.

You can go lower than the 7,4kg, but the price tag will be hefty.

Just ride the bike. If you should run a lighter bike, you start off from scratch. If you would add "bling" (light weight components), i guess pretty soon you'd start to look for a new frameset to.
You can always think the other way. More weight makes you stronger ;-)
Bikes:

Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)

The good thing is that I can now ride a steel bike and know that it's not heavier than the latest carbon bikes around :D :D

Very interesting post, just building the same but with a few different parts, am hoping for 7kg but I’m doubting that now. What make of skewers are you using, also what seat?

My skewers are just the standard vision skewers that come in at 115 gram. My seat is a prologo what is a 228 gram saddle. I’m trying to get mine closer to the 7 kgs and maybe to the 6,8 with some s works cranks , lighter skewers and some lighter seat.

I’ve heard Enve skewers are strong enough for disc brakes. They come in at 60g per set & although some of my mates are against it due to risk of cracking I’ve gone for a 112g Chinese carbon seat, I’ve used one on my Addict SL for years with zero issues. Have you a pic of the bike, at least if it looks the business you can suck up a few hundred grams :beerchug:

You bought this saddle on alie?
I’m already looking for a saddle too but i’m scared to buy something from alie because i’m from Belgium and heard some thing get stuck at the border (douane) and you get some troubles.

Darimo T1 or T2 seatpost - 65-90g (-110-140g)
Cane Creek AER or FSA-SL ACB headset - ~50g (-50g)
Extralite Hyperstem 10cm - 80g (-20g)
Darimo Ellipse bars 40cm - 124g (-58g)
Wheels - lots of options, anywhere from ~850g shallow to ~1200g deep (-350-700g)
PYC SP1101 chain - ~214g (-35g)
Deda Traforator tape - ~40g (-46g)
Berk Dila saddle - 85-100g (-60-75g)
Carbonworks cages - ~18g (-20g)
Pedals - too much options, but ~60g can be saved.

Total: ~800-1200g, and I skipped a bunch of options like crankset, paint stripping, rotors etc.

Hi

I’ve bought several seats from China, no problem with customs at all. Go for it
