I was saying that before the newest one...there still were a lot on the old one...did you read what I said before?
In the context of the thread the obvious way to read your post was that a lot of pros were using the oldest seatpost version
this year, instead of the new one.

Out of interest, has anyone played around with different saddles and noticed improved comfort? I really want to throw some hard-earned at a padded Berk saddle - not for weight (I'm deluded sometimes but not to the extent of thinking I'll suddenly have an ultegra equipped S5 any weenie would be proud of) but because they look good and would surely be more forgiving than the stock Antares R7 on there now. Or is it all down to wheels and tyres (which I'm happy with anyway) and I may as well save the cash?

Good question. It seems the S5 polarizes opinion like most machines. One mans stiff is another ones harsh and most of the opinions I have canvassed say harsh bike despite trying tyre combo/wheel/saddle/bibs etc. Silk purse pigs ear effect. BUT there is no doubt that they S5 is indeed an absolute rocket ship and the perfect chase / breakaway / solo bike if your arse can take it

Saddles make a huge difference but it is very personal. For me I’m ok with an unpadded saddle up to about 150km and past that some padding is better. Tyres also make a huge difference but in a less personal way, and wheels make a much smaller difference than tyres.

I agree. I've tried four or five different makes now but not any really expensive ones - but hopefully there's a Christmas bonus on the way and I'd like to support Berk while their saddle supports me etc etc...

Carbon railed / hulled saddles definitely take out a lot of road buzz on the rear.
I've steadily changed a lot of components on my S5 and the most notable improvements in ride quality were the following:
- Aluminium bars / stem --> Carbon bars / stem
- Metal railed saddle with plastic hull --> Carbon railed saddle with carbon hull
- Clincher wheels / tires --> tubular wheels / tires
