Madone slr. Disc brakes.
I don't need disc brakes but i would never buy another rim brake bike. The main + of disc brake road bikes is that new frames can be designed around the through axles making them stiffer, have better hangers, etc.
The brakes them selves aren't perfect but definitely better than the best rim offerings. then again there are people on here who will argue campy skeleton calipers are great when they are about the same quality as sora so no ones ever winning that argument.
If i see a new road bike without discs now it looks kinda dated to me

I've recently bought a new climbing bike rim frame-set. Also going to get an aero frameset also in rim next spring or summer and occassinally run it as a mini TT bike with clip-on aero bars. I just want to be able to swtich across wheels between bikes.
I have four mountain bikes in two countries and one CX bike all disk, but for road even though I'm competent at maintaining disk brakes, I just don't see the point of the extra complexity and weight.

But that’s the problem, they will stop making them soon. If all the cyclocross and gravel bikes are disc, almost all the Aero bikes are disc and almost all the endurance bikes are disc, there’s just a small “niche” in climbing/race bikes that want rim. It doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint to support 2 incompatible brake systems; I could see a company like giant go all disc on every bike in the next couple of years.
New S5 Disc on the way! hopefully here the beginning of next month.

I think they may stop making rim brakes - at least on the highest end offerings - but not for the foreseeable future. They're not 100% chosen in the pro peloton yet, and Campy just came out with 12 speed rim and disc gruppo. Specialized have pretty much gone 100% disc for their bikes (you have to order the frame to get the rim version), and Trek are advising retailers not to even stock rim brake equipped bikes, so disc is here to stay and will move to the majority (they already have), but it's probably at least 10 years before the next Campy main revision and there's a long ways to go before the pro peloton just says no to any rim offering, so Shimano and SRAM will have them. Maybe 10 years out Shimano and SRAM won't even have a rim offering - and possibly sooner - but Campy will have high end rim brakes I imagine for the lifespan of 12 speed and most likely an offering at least after that. Probably 10-15 years before high end rim brakes are a thing of the past, if not longer. Hope it never happens, myself. I think they're pretty daft on road bikes, but to each their own for sure. I can see the advantage for specific use.Phuddy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 3:11 pmBut that’s the problem, they will stop making them soon. I bought a Emonda with rim brakes last month.
This being the most important reason not to go disc. I've ridden bikes were you can flex the bike left and right and get brake rub on each side, and those were expensive machines.
Maybe ill buy a new bike in next 6 months, and will definetely be a rim brake version..
Since i allready have a bike that i love and ride almost every day ( Colnago C60 Rim version of course), im not in hurry.. One of the reason that i want to buy a new bike, is because of marketing brainwashing that rims are old fashioned, and discs are way to go, i expect some nice deals on frames im interested...
All of them rim version and One of them is Bianchi Specialissima...
Also i have Shamal Ultra Clinchers and Bora 35 tubs.. And even i knew it about new discs must to have marketing in road bike, i did not hesitate at all to buy another pair brand new Bora 50 tubs just few monts ago.. Also expect discount on HighEnd rim brake groupsets so one more reason to buy a new bike...

Bought a rim Tarmac SL6 frame in July. I've never had issues with braking despite it not being flat around here, and the thought of extra weight, and new wheels and the extra complexity didn't seem worth it. I'm sure I'll have one eventually due to market trends but I have no plans on getting one anytime soon.
