I wonder if Conti made a running change to the diameter of the 5000 TL. I just swapped 3 wheelsets to those tires (Enve 3.4 Disc, Campy Bora 60 WTO Disc, and Roval CLX 50 disc), and the experience setting them up was appropriately challenging. What I mean is that they were tight, but not at all the tightest I've fit, and none of it matched the horror stories I have read here and elsewhere. The fit between the tires and the 3 different rims was also remarkably consistent, which is probably a comment about the coincidentally consistent diameter of the 3 rims I happen to have fit the tires on. Using a compressor, all 6 tires popped into place easily. All 6 tires retain air as well as any tubeless tire+rim combination I have tried. I'm an early road tubless adopter and have some experience, but it all went fine. I really do suspect though that I got a newer batch of 5000 TL tires and maybe the diameter or some other aspect of the tire has been altered to make fitting smoother.

No your experience is mine. Those that struggle with these tyres are not that skilled at fitting tyres. I get emails saying I have been cycling for 40 years and have never had a tyre that been so tight to fit. So how come this 44 year old has no problem then with the same tyre and rim?

Try mounting a GP5K TL on ENVE SES 5.6s and get back to me. You've complained that you couldn't get Hutchinsons or Yksion Pro USTs on Open Pro USTs easily. I can get those on by hand on any of my rims. I can barely get GP5K TLs on my 5.6s with two levers.

Err no I said I could not mount by hand. With a lever it's easy. In any case the last time I tried with a new build the yskion tyre was almost hand fit. Odd for a tyre rim combo that supposed to be very consistent.

In general I have zero issues with mounting of these tyres and even this puncture king is not puncturing them yet.

Because you started when you were 3, and that extra year tipped you into expert class! :-)

Also when I posted about the Hutchinson tyres I had a hand injury. I did not say I did as i dont need to. That injury took over a year i think two years to heal. Bending your thumb back in a crash is really painful.

So, Warren Barguil is training on GP5000TL tires... with tan walls! :unbelievable:

Hopefully Continental releases them for consumers too (in both tubeless and clinchers, I personally don't want tubeless).

2000km on my tubeless Gp5000 on Enve 5.6

Running at much lower tyre pressure ( 79 )

No problems at all - they have been great. I can't compare them to any other tubeless tyre, as these are my first...
I just ordered two gp5000s tubeless for dtswiss wheels

Was wondering what pressure I should ride them at. I weigh 195 lbs and usually ride at 105 psi

Barguil stated they're tubeless tires and he's one of the more tech-savvy guys as far as pros go... but I agree, they do look like tubulars, Conti Giros with a GP5000 stamp? :noidea:

Somewhere between 50 and 80 psi.

Maybe try different pressure out and see what works best. I think I rode home tonight on 40 psi with rear load.

Would you guys say these would have cotton-type sidewalls? I'd be interest to see how the tubed version would stack up against Turbo Cottons, given the GP5000s low rolling resistance. If they're not of a cotton-type, their ride feel might be a bit different than Turbo Cottons, right? Less supple?

Looks like there is a valve nut on the rear so that points towards tubeless.
