Tubeless
+ Although tires puncture just as easily, with tubeless sealant that is less likely to lead into stopping for tire work on the side of the road
+ Less rolling mass (depending on tire selection)
+ More supple riding feel
+ Likely better rolling resistance in relation to comfort
+ Possibility of running less pressure because snake bites aren’t an issue (but with road tubeless, the pressures are always relatively high compared to MTB)
+ Can be used with inner tubes if needed
- More work the setup from zero
- Do not completely take away the need for carrying a spare inner tube
- Sealants work only adequately well with thinner tires, as thinner tires need high riding pressures (thinner = less than 25mm in width)

Tubes
+ Easy to replace, both at home and on the road
+ Wider selection of tires available
- Doesn’t carry a rolling resistance penalty when best tire and inner tube combinations are used, but most likely won’t be as comfortable as tubeless
- More rolling mass (depending on tire selection)

Just to start a conversation? Although I think this revealed the reason why the LBS didn’t recommend going tubeless...
