Amazing deals on previous generations S5s for example atm, so wondering if there's anything like that happening with a really nice TT bike? I'm in the UK.

I'm going to be shafted soon, as I've booked my S5 in for repair and custom paintjob (was in a hit n run last weekend) and the repair times are massive right now (8-10weeks).

This leaves me with no bike to use on the trainer (can't ride outside until arm healed) over winter. Initially I was thinking to get some dirge for £300 then eBay it when my bike is back. Or a cross bike. Or fixie. Nothing really appealed to me after a lot of searching. I'm just not really into cross, heart isn't in it. But I've always secretly lusted after TT bike, so maybe now's the time to dedicate to one if there's an awesome deal around.

Definitely can't afford to go nuts here, taking keys to new place in November and gave to renovate it. Timing is s**t beyond imagining, but need to suck it up and make something happen. Don't want to lose fitness, also a TT bike will be fun on the trainer for me while I'm recovering compared to a dirge £300 supermarket bike (sounds weird I know).

Any ideas on any of this?

Pauls cycles usually have some good deals.
Maybe buy a lower end bike (105) and upgrade when funds allow?

It's not like 105 will make it slower.

Or Winstanleys usually have some deals. Not sure how many TT bikes they do, but they do have this.

Nice find! Though I think they've been a bit cheeky and inflated the RRP :D

Definitely okay with 105, just need a good looking frame that I can upgrade next year when funds allow like you say.

Best looking 'budget' frame I found so far is:
https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Cervel ... -Bike/H256

I'm 179cm though and the frame is a 58. Sigma Sports guy said I should be on a 56..

Damn shame, but still considering it, just not sure what all the downsides are of jumping on a 58. Upside is it's easier to slam I guess :D

Felt had a deal on the red 2018 IA16. They blew out a bunch for a smoking deal, as I think felt wanted them gone for the 2019’s and disc IA’s. 105 but with tt bikes, weight means little.

I also crave a tri bike, but just for fun/training. F&$k the purists, I don’t like to swim. ;-D

There is a long and painful transitioning process to a comfortable and fast TT-position. In the beginning it's either fast or comfortable.

You need the right angles on that fork and seattube to feel confident at high speeds. A road bike with clipons doesnt produce that I think.

I went with an S5 frame, seat forward and clipons. I'm now looking for a real TT frame now that I've done a few thousand kilometers on this S5 tt.

Thick elbow pads. Height+inclination adjustable aero bars. These two things are important too.

Depends on what you find to be a good deal 8)

I suggest getting a frameset, then building it with 1x Ultegra 8050 Di2 w/o FD. Also, is it important for you to be UCI legal or you just want to hammer around centuries at 40 kph  ?

Knowing P5 Disc is coming, I was looking for a P5-3, almost bought this one: https://shop.edelrad.de/en/cervelo-p5/2 ... meset.html, but eventually found it cheaper NOS (although with Tririg Alpha One upgrade, for me the total cost is going to be more expensive). You can risk and wait a little maybe they'd drop the price even further (this particular item was 3.3k last time I looked at it, now it's 3k)

I know that Speed Concepts (full mechanical builds with stock supercheap wheels) can be had for good price (the best of any superbikes I've seen) through your local Trek dealer - basically as fast as P5, but at the expense of less customizable cockpit (assuming you go with your own aerobars on P5).

Other options (triathlon specific with the added risk of hydraulic rim brakes) - https://www.bike24.com/p2239109.html but, compared to P5, of course only, if you can find it cheaper, I did have an option to get this under 3k from my local Cube dealer.
Minimum bike categories required in the stable:
Aero bike | GC bike | GC rim bike | Climbing bike | Climbing rim bike | Classics bike | Gravel bike | TT bike | Indoors bike

@Rocket agree! Cycling should be fun, easy to forget that sometimes. I know I have and got too into the training side of things. Now I'm re-examining my priorities and just doing what feels like fun to me. If the Tri bike gives you some joy, do it :P

@alcatraz been there last winter. Got Zipp clip-ons, and stuck 'em on my (now sold) endurance bike on the trainer. Loved it, got comfy on it and after a couple of months tried to hit the road on it. Total nightmare. Weight was all wrong and it was twitchy as hell. Couldn't really make it work so flogged them off. I was considering the ENVE headset for the S5 but my experience on my endurance bike + clip on's put me off.

@ Congrats on your new P5! That P5-3 frameset is excellent and part of me is glad I've already placed an order on a P2 in grey an hour ago or else I may have went for it. I would really love a TT bike with an integrated headset. Looks so boss. The P2 cost £1600, had the colour/size I preferred and coming Tuesday. That's small change to get into TT'ing properly I guess on a good looking frameset. I did look for Trek Concepts as I like those, but was disappointed. Just didn't see the discounts I was expecting on last season Treks. In fact.. really low stock and choice on TT bikes in general in the UK. I'll be using it to be a lout on Strava and just fly around but would prefer UCI legal in case I get half way decent :P

@Multe I'm a Cervelo fanboy, really hard to draw me away

Will be fun doing winter training on it but already I've been looking at power meters, eTap deals, wheelsets, cockpits

Some pics that inspired me to find a grey P2

Wow, that's naughty! E-117 is £3500 RRP in that spec. 37% is still a great deal, but it's not 58%. Wouldn't even be that if it was an R8050 bike.

A couple of months ago there was a stock liquidator looking to offload a few hundred 2017 Argon-18 bikes it had bought from a bankrupt European distributor. Not sure whether they've ended up in the UK or elsewhere, but there might be some great deals out there on older colours.
