Dura Ace 9000 pedals - 4mm Longer axle option??

Shimano offer the DA 9000 pedals with a 4mm longer axle over standard.

How do you determine if a rider needs a longer axle and can it be measured before purchasing? Is there a certain pelvis width that dictates a longer axle?

I'm unclear.

If you have a pair of big foot, your shoes may not clear the crank......that's why Shimano make this version.

I guess they'd be useful to help your heel clear the crank arm/chainstay if you've got flat arches/duck feet.

I had a bike fit and using the knee tracking in video they indicated I needed 6mm wider axles. We shoved the cleat as far to the sides as possible to check that there was an improvement and there was but software still indicated 3 and 5mm I believe. So... bike fit will tell you.

Numbness in my right foot in the shoes have almost been completely eliminated as a result where I thought I needed new shoes.
