I've had disk brakes on mountain bikes for well over a decade and have wanted them on my road bike ever since I first used them. They are everything I expected them to be. I will never go back. They are not 100% necessary if u live on flat ground, but they are better.

Aero is free speed. As long as it doesn't compermise comfort them it's worth it for me. 50mm wheels for light box wheels makes me faster 99% of the time. Same is true for frame, helmet, kit, handlebars.... The small weight increase is more than made up for most of the time.

I currently use rim brakes on road and disc for off-road, my next road bike will have disc brakes but only because I'm too lazy to clean my bike when riding through winter...no other reason.

I think this is the best reason to have dic brakes - rim brakes are fine for summer, even in the wet, but they get absolutely manky in the winter! I'll take squeaky brakes if it means I get to be squeaky clean too.
