So disappointed by the new S5. I love my Cervelo but the new S5 has to be one of the ugliest bikes ever made. The upward facing split-in-half stem or whatever they call it is just so bad. I would go with an S3 or R5 if I was looking.....

Ugly or not it will look dissapointingly outdated in a couple of years.

it is ugly, expensive, heavy. reminds me last gen venge vias. specialized learned the hard lessons. i predict cervelo will refresh it after sales tank.

A more conventional frame looks more 'classic' at the same time. Frames that try to look innovative end up look dated very soon. There are dozens of such design failures. BTW there is nothing innovative in the case of Cervelo. Similar headbubes-stems designs exist since the 1990s.

However, am I not right in saying that that Look is widely regarded as a classic now, in fact one of the more famous bikes ever made?
Degustibus etc... but with the recent aero bikes any bike with exposed cabling (even rim) and / or a non proprietry stem now looks incredibly dated in my eyes.

Every frame looks dated after a few years but some frames remain classic (see Colnago C40, Look 595 or TIME vxrs).

I can see that arguement that it's in the eye of the beholder. However, I think most cyclists riding bikes over 10 grand are more picky about aesthetics, ability to replace parts, fit adjustment, etc. Maybe this will be a "classic" but the forced upward split stem is so bad. Take a look at the pics where spaers are added under it for fit.....the top tube loses the smooth transition to stem and it looks even worse.
I guess only time will tell, but for now let's keep bashing it

I would only buy this bike after a precise fit in order to ensure that my riding position required no spacers at all

Hate is probably a bit strong, personally I like it and loath it an equal amount...
On one hand it’s cool as it’s taken a design concept (teh aeroz) and fully ran with it within the design constraints offered under the current UCI tech guidelines and drivetrain limitations. (Although saying that, if you’re using electronic gears the S3 is likely so damn close it makes the V stem kinda pointless, the S3 is probably/maybe a better all round bike as well)
On the other hand, it’s a horrible mess of proprietary bullshit that even Specialized would be proud of and is basically everything that is currently irritating about the bike industry.
