So i have a cannondale supersix evo from 2018 and i want to upgrade the crankset to something lighter. This is the original:

And here is the potential upgrade that i can get for 48usd. Good value eh?

This is the spindle length:

So the question is, will it be a case of plug and play? from my understanding it should fit fine but just want to double check.
Thanks!

Looks like the spindle is badly worn. The rusted part that interface with the bearings may cause creaking noise. Good luck.

^^^this

i'd guess rust from the bearings has stained it, might be some corrosion of the surface too, can't have been greased/mantained for a looooooooong time

unless you can see it cleaned up to really check the state of the surfaces i would avoid it

Well the seller said that it was merely rust from the bearings and it could be removed. The main question was however, will the crankset fit in my current bottom bracket?

Yes it will fit. It’s a BB386EVO spindle, so a PF30 bb will work with the correct spacers which FSA sell!

it'll fit

but it is suposed to be a snug fit in the bearings, if things have gone that rusty perhaps there was also galvanic corrosion of the spindle (for steel - aluminium, aluminium is what gets eaten), it takes only a small amount to cause problems

if this is just cosmetic, it seems odd that the seler couldn't be bothered to take a few seconds to wipe it clean with an oily rag before spendng far longer taking pictures and putting it up for sale

Absolutely agree with you guys! i have asked the seller to wipe the rust off which he claimed that he could easily do. Will see what happens

It's missing any method to preload the bearings. No wavy washer or threaded preload ring.

It also looks like it's missing the 13mm driveside spacer.

To install on your frame you'd need the 13mm driveside spacer and a wavy washer.

It might seem like a good purchase but are you upgrading to save weight or what?

I can tell you that crank you have has a rare and unusual spider many climbers would like to get a hold of. It has a 120/90bcd config that allows for really wide range of chainring sizes.

That sram crank might be called "red carbon" but it's not really the crank that made red cranks popular. It does support putting on a crank based power meter but so does your SI.

I'd try to get a red exogram crank with an integrated spider maybe. Should fit the frame even with the short spindle by removing the preload adjuster.

48 usd is cheap, no question about it. Is it a good upgrade, maybe not. The weight saving is in the chainrings that weigh 94 + 28gr. (I use them myself as a cheap ww alternative. They do tend to drop chains a lot and need a very carefully adjusted front derailleur.)

Spindle looks a bit long to me if you're installing on a bb30/pf30/68-73 frame. It might be missing the preload adjuster. Ask for it. It was maybe removed to accomodate an install on a wider shell like bb79(bbright).
