It’s an inflation bladder. Almost all carbon wheels and frames have bits of this left over from the molding/curing process.

Your wheel is half plastic already. How much do the extracted bits of bladder weigh? I bet most wheels have significant sections of bladder remaining inside. The only exception I can think of is Enve since they cut out a section to pull the bladder and then patch it.

Yes, I probably prefer the bits of bladder to be left alone rather than the cut/patch idea. My Corima's have a foam core so maybe they wouldn't require the use of a baldder? Not going to look though as there are no spoke holes anyway :roll:

Indeed, the patch on ENVE rim beds can be annoying. For those of us running tubeless, the patch and resin pooling at the edges creates an uneven surface for rim tapes. They also make it difficult for the bead to seat in that area.

Have you seen videos of Luescher Teknik cut up high end carbon frames and components? It's a very sobering picture of the overpriced world of carbon cycling products.

Thanks for that. You just reminded me how difficult my first gen SES 3.4 Disc was to setup tubeless b'cos of the patch.

And almost no rhyme or reason as to whether your expensive branded parts are produced or finished any better than cheap ones. Check out the Enve vs Generic rim cut-up video!
