Here's the thing. Spent most of this year on the current R5 - great bike. Fast when required, comfy and a great climbing bike within the realms of my climbing capability. I had an aero itch to scratch so went for the S5 and as two bikes go they are chalk and cheese. BUT at nominal speeds there is nothing in it. When the road lites up, the S5 seems to have a 6th gear that the R5 does not. |t just starts to fly and used it last weekend to chase down a few guys riding ahead of me a the top end of a short but sharp cat 3 climb. Caught them no problem and got a PB - see screen 1. The turn of speed is great and north of 25 mph it motors. But I would always advise that at regular 'just riding along' speeds there is not a lot in it. I decided to go aero as I do point to point riding, a bit like solo TT riding full gas on roads that curry favour. And in no way pro bro, just a 47 year old guy who like others enjoys his sport. On screen 2 - 8.38 miles on a rolling decent into side winds last Friday got me another PB on a road 140 miles north of where I live, but the kind of terrain an aero bike laps up. The only caveat I can level at the S5 is it is absurdly stiff, but very very efficient. PM data from screen shot 2 is 131 watts average power. More speed, less work.

Thanks for input, I can see it will be tough decision between SLR and S5.
My problem with S5 is sizing, I am between 54 and 56. I am 6ft with 33.5´´ inseam.
I like SLR much more and no problems with Madone size choosing, but it is almost twice the price of S5.

Re H1/H1.5/H2 - the new stems provide two options. I have the low (15 deg) stem which replicates position of H1. If you want H2 just use other stem and leave some washers in.
I have found I could go more aggressive than I originally thought due somewhat to the soft setting dampening and the isospeed being so effective in cutting out vibrations from my lower back.
I am 6’ 2” with an 88cm / 34.5 in inseam. I use the 20mm set back post, a 130mm stem on. 58cm frame. . Sounds to me like you could get a 56cm frame and go for a similar length stem.

izza: If I understand it right, you could set low and high setting with just one stem or you need two?
I like aggresive body postion, so it is not a problem to set the bike to H1 like position.
If I choose SLR, I will get 56 size for sure, there is no dilemma like in Cervelo S5 case.

There is no dilemma, you're a 56 in the S5.

The difference between new S5 and Madone 1.5 is 1mm in reach and 2mm in stack (both size 56).
(Madone R:391/S:563, S5 R:392/S:565)
So talking (only) frame measurements, there is no problems.
However, Madone have some restrictions when it comes to saddle height.
Talking S5, it seems the new stem could be an issue if it's not available in a lower version.
Well worth checking both before any purchase.

previous edition S5 with a 6˚ stem
and a 5mm top cap.

Yes, new aero road stem, 120mm.

According to picture, 56 should be fine, even with 2cm lower saddle. Seems like 54 would have absurdly big drop.
About stem, if I buy S5, I´d like to change it anyway for something aero integrated(with place to hide Di2 unit too).
Guys, is it possible to fit, say Metron 5D bars with its spacers to S5?

Short legs generally means longer torso (but not always.) That also generally means you should choose larger frames with longer reach values.
Especially with short legs, at 6' if that's your saddle height, that means your torso is massive, which means you likely need the length of the 56.
