Sorry to the OP for a thread hijack. Yes the Izalco Race is a few grams more.

hijack all you want.
love to read people's experience

i'm still in the middle of building it up.
waiting on a compression plug
and some clear weather
maybe sunday will be my first ride.

12-14 lbs for a non-heroic build spec seems outrageous!!!

Ok, found him. Thanks guys.

Looks like he only has complete bikes in my size and config. (54cm, rim brake, mech group)

I wonder how much an Izalco “Race” frame weighs. Something tells me it weighs more than an Izalco Max.
wouldn't hurt to inquire if they would break down, and sell a bare frameset.

I’ve been doing some research on the Izalco Race frame weight. One of the sites that sells them says the 2016/2017 frames are on average 860 grams, but the 2018 models went up to 1020 grams average.

I messaged the Piermont seller to see if he has weighed one of the Izalco Race frames.

I’d be cool with the 860 grams, but the 1020 grams is heavier than what I have now.

Just checked eBay and Piermont listed more 54cms and there’s one that’s used for a little less.

wow, those piermont-prices are really obscene. much cheaper than here in europe, even compared to the most-favourable source (essencetester in hungary, but he has just very few frames left).
i would get one just as a backup, for this price!

Can those Di2 only framesets be made into mech group frames by changing out an adaptor plate?

No they are electronic only.

Ok. I run mech Dura Ace, so I guess that kind of limits me on frame choice. I thought for some of the older Focus models like the Cayo, there were plates you could change on the front to make it elec or mech group. Maybe I’m wrong about that.

I asked a seller for the frame and fork weight for a 54cm Izalco Race frame. He said
Frame- 1135g
Fork- 350g
I wonder why they weigh so much. Maybe a beefed up frame to handle crashes?

I imagine this is how the conversation went:

Engineers: “We can make the Race model 50grams heavier than the Max”
Acccounting: “How much money do we save?”
Engineers: “What is this saving money?”
Marketing: “Listen, we need to make the Max much lighter so people understand the added value of the big price difference”
Sales: “Give us 4 models we can sell, don’t make this easy for our customers”
Accounting: “Well 2 of them have to cost much less to manufacture”
Engineers: “Done!”
.
.
.
.
.
Follow-up year end fiscal report meeting -
CEO: “Why were our sales on the Izalco so low?”
CMO: “It’s not our fault, we gave our customers choices”
COO: “We made them light or affordable”
CFO: “Sorry I’m late for a golf game, gotta jet”
CEO: “ok, let’s clear them out”
COO: “great! Now about 2019, we are thinking aero, everyone’s talking about it”

If I were you, I would call them directly since they are in New York and offer them a deal off ebay for the frameset. I bought a brand new Addict SL bike with full SRAM Red and Zip 202 from them for $2800. I then sold the Zip 202 to one of my buddy for $1500, so pretty much got a brand new bike and full Sram Red group for $1300. I felt like robbing them afterward :)

To the OP, please upgrade the FSA headset bearing asap. I cracked the bottom bearing twice with very low mileage on the bike. The FSA bearing is superlight but it's super fragile, and easily cracked. I upgraded to full Enduro bearing for my headset. It's a bit heavier but it's very durable and silky smoth. I also upgraded the compression plug since the stock one is heavy as fck and it slips after every 3 rides.

What were the symptoms of a cracked bottom headset bearing?
