Di2 Upgrade

Hi all,

New to the forum and first post. I had a try of a friends Di2 bike the other day and loved it so I've decided I'm going to upgrade my groupset.
I currently have a Specialized Roubaix Elite 2017.

So I think this is all I need.

If the cable set listed above isn't what I need with the bar plug mount can someone please tell me exactly which ones are needed?

How easy will this be? I'm OK with tools but wouldn't say anywhere near an expert with bikes.
Any specific tools I will need?

All parts will be sourced individually to keep the price down. I'd like to give this a bash myself as I like the satisfaction.

Yes it will, IF your current crank is 50/34, you don't actually need to buy the R8000 50/34 if cost is all you are thinking about.........looks is a different topic

Cables are the same except for length, you would need to find out how long you need.
With the bar end plug, its 2 port only, so you would need 6 cables of varying lengths, one each for:
RD to Box B
FR to Box B
Battery to Box B
Box B to Bar plug A
Plug A to one shifter
L shifter to R shifter

THEN... if you want Bluetooth/phone interface, you need to install this

[i]Get the shimano di2 cable tool...for removing and inserting cable...I think it makes it slightly easier

You will need to get access to your BB area, at the very least to thread cables through and around. Junction B should be around the BB area unless it can fit inside your seattube
Some bikes will require you to remove the crankset, unless you have a large enough hole at the bottom, then you probably won't, just flip your bike upside down and look
Chances are, if you are fitting Box B inside BB area, you will need to remove your crankset, maybe BB too, depends if it has gaps in it for you to slot the junction box

You are buying pretty much everything except cassette and chain, both of which are wearable items. Usually a set is cheaper than buying individually like you are doing. Try CRC or Merlin

I recently did this conversion and I can add a few comments:

1) You don't need to buy the TL-EW02 di2 tool separately. One is included with the shifters set.

2) You might be able to save some cash buy purchasing an upgrade kit like this from r2-bike. https://r2-bike.com/SHIMANO-Ultegra-Di2 ... rakes-2x11. That's what I did any my calculations came out cheaper than when ordering separately. However, this kit does not have everything you need... you'll still need a di2 charger, grommets, di2 wire clips (to stop rattling wires).

3) I believe Specialized frames have a port under the bottom bracket to access the di2 wires and install the junction B. This way you don't need to remove the bottom bracket. This manual will be helpful https://media.specialized.com/support/c ... 070545.pdf

4) Pickup a Shimano bleed kit and some mineral oil if you don't have them already. You'll need to bleed your brakes after you upgrade the shifters.

Well, thanks all for the responses.

I've decided that after all of that I'm not going to bother with the upgrade just yet. The parts on my bike as they are aren't the greatest, so I wouldn't get too much back for them but if I upgraded my (newly appeared) OCD couldn't have me have a mix. I just can't justify that cost at this moment in time for what is essentially a toy, but there is plenty of time in the future for it.

The parts were cheaper to source online. if I kept the same cassette and rotors etc. If I did go ahead I would use R2 as then it comes with a bit peace of mind rather than sourcing things on eBay.
