I apologize to make it sound too exagerated. It's from my experience as a new converter from rim to disc brake.

It's tire/road traction, weight transfer, and most importantly braking technique (don't panic and grab full force) indeed.
I can never lock up front wheel. But slight rear skid when light suddenly turn red or car cut in front of me were a bit too common until i change from 160mm to 140mm rotor.
I have to admit, i still have strong muscle memory from the day i use rim brake (under Bottom bracket) on smooth (chinese) carbon rim brake track. So change to 140mm is just enough to reduce over-braking in hurry without having to teach myself to overwrite old habit. I simply control rear brake better when it's not as strong as the front one.

Since you have experience with same size rotor before, i think your hand is accomodated to moderately apply different pressure on each wheel and should do fine.
