Like the title says, I'm looking to upgrade my daughters's two TT bikes next spring.
The stock bikes come with Microshift shifters and Ultegra derailleurs.

I'd like to install electronic shifters and derailleurs. It will be my maiden experience with electronic, so I don't really know what parts are necessary besides the shifters and derailleurs...
What's the best / most valuable upgrade with budget in mind ?
Ultegra R8050 "kit" ?
Where are the best deals on these ?

Thanks for the heads up.

Louis :)

6000series ultegra is fine.. you need junction boxes , wires and battery as well.

Take your time and you can pick up most things on ebay or forums.
Only thing i bought brand new was the internal battery. Theres quite a few tales of dead ones, so thought it wasnt worth the hassle.

You dont "need" the brake lever/ shifter combo's; the SW671 switches are great and as you've only had the equivalent manual versions before, it's not like you're missing anything. Its also where a lot of the cost is.
Likewise- BT doodad and new version battery arent neccessities.

You'll need a battery charger too; at least you'll only need 1 of them ;)
Having tried Di2 on the road and not been overly wonover, its on the TT bike it really shines.

I think 6870 looks great and has all the functionality of 8050. I would get the brake shifters as i see that as the big advantage of di2 for tt bikes - shifting out of corners and out of the starting blocks.

blip box is a non-starter for me... if they could do something more clever with that maybe

I agree, kind of ruins the simplicity of etap, but I prefer it for TT builds if they are super complicated.

Few comments:
- I went with Campy Athena (same as Chorus EPS) components off of Ebay. This is probably not the direction you are going.
- Electronic is definately the way to go for a TT bike.
- Remember, if you want the bike UCI legal, the front measurement is to the very tip of the shifter. On mechanical groups it's to the pivot point.

Thanks for all the comments.
I'll definitely look out for the 6870 components.

joeyb1000 the only reason I didn't think of campagnolo is because of the JR gear restriction ( 52 X 14 ).
I doubt the system will shift correctly with a shimano 11 cassette.
And the power unit is the pricey part !! I guess I only have to buy one even for two bikes.

About Etap, I know a few wealthy kids that are pretty happy with their setup. I just don't have the budget  . Would be very happy to see a Force Etap option coming out soon...

About the UCI rule for mechanical shifters, I'll have to double check into this because all the bikes I have seen measured in races here were to the tip of the shifters fully extended.

This is correct, the measurement is with the full length of the shifter.

Yes, I looked at the current rules, and you guys are correct. That was part of the 2014 changes. I'm just a little behind the times.

Other question: I want to use my older Zipp 900 disc wheel ( 10S freehub), with machined Ultegra 8000 14-28 cassettes on the wheel.
Will Di2 automatically adjust to a different L-R cassette setup ?
