hey guys, i just bought a new stem for my first ( roubaix ‘14) i removed the old stem and it had an insert with it. my new stem is slightly narrower in width and obviously wont fit with the old insert. is it needed, or will it damage the bike. see attached pictures. help please, im rather new to all this. thanx BImageImageImageImage

That looks like a 1 1/4" to 1 1/8" adapter shim. If your new stem is 1 1/8" (it looks like it is), you shouldn't need the shim. If after torquing it down to spec as you've installed, you're not able to twist it in either direction, you should be good to go.

The shim is to vary the angle of the stem and is specific to that style of stem.
