A rule to remember. Every two links or 1 inch of chain adds enough length to wrap another 4T. That's the minimum change that can be made. Some instructions that mention 3 links must be referring to 1 inch increments, that would be 6 links. Chains usually have a minimum of 114 links, or 57 inches - more for MTB chains.
