3T Ergonova, dent from stem, what do you guys think?
Moderator: robbosmans
I’ve had really good luck buying used carbon parts before this. My current carbon bars (Salsa Poco) are in really good shape, and have no clamp marks whatsoever.
With these 3T bars, I figured since they already had some paint damage, I wouldn’t feel bad about sanding them down. I just never imagined someone would sell bars with a dent like that. The dent was not pictured in the ad.
I’m waiting for eBay to give me the ok to send them back for a refund.

The bar is on its way back to the seller. Hopefully he decides to bin it and not try to sell it again.
I just ordered a new Ergonova Team stealth from a reputable vender. 144$ including shipping. Only 54$ more than I paid for the damaged bar.
I know 3T changed the way they measure bars recently. The measure from the hoods now instead of the drops. I’m hoping this 38cm bar I just bought will be 36cm at the hoods, like the old Ergonovas measured.
I really like my current 36cm bar width and don’t want to go wider.
According to my shoulder width I should be riding a 42cm bar. The 36cm just feels more comfortable, and let’s me be a little more aero.

How new is your Ergonova?
The damaged one in this thread measured 38cm C-C at the drops and just over 36cm C-C at the hoods.
I think that one was around 5 years old though

I emailed 3T to see when they made the change to the Ergonova. They say they have only started measuring the bars at the tops on the newer bars. The Ergonova has always been measured at the drops.
This is what they said-
“Hi Jerry,
We are measuring our new line at the hoods (Superleggera, Superergo, etc.)
If you purchase an Ergonova bar, you will get a measurement at the drops. An Ergonova 40cm is 40 cm at the drops.
Cheers,”
So my 38cm bar should be 38cm at the drops, and less than that at the tops.

I got my refund for the damaged bars.
And I received my new pair of Ergonova. The pair is 36cm at the hoods and 38cm at the drops. Weight is 200.6 grams. 10 grams heavier than the older pair I had. That’s disappointing.
The Salsa Poco bars these are replacing are 194.5 grams. Is always sucks when replacing a part with a heavier one. I really like the ergo bars though.
And the bike with the new bars

Merlin Cycles. It’s usually cheaper for me to buy parts from U.K. than here. Unless someone in the states is having a sale.Nefarious86 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 2:13 pmWhere did you buy these?

Yes I feel much safer with these for sure. I think the older 3T bars were lighter, but also had some structural issues (easier to crush in the stem mounting area).
Maybe 3T beefed them up in that area? I’ll use these for a while and then take the bars off and look for impressions were the stem mounts.
I’m using a Kalloy stem, and it seems to have a pretty good clamping area distribution. Of course it helps that I don’t over torque the sh*t out of my mounting bolts like the guy must have done with the first pair of bars.
