shimano pm is a design failure. they are limiting production. i guess the flaws will be fixed in the all new 12 speed dura ace in 2020
This is speculation, but it seems like it's very tough to design a PM around the current Shimano cranks due to the asymmetrical DS crank causing torque vector measurement issues. GPLama's Stages LR has a similar problem to the Shimano PM...aka L/R balance issues and the right side reading low.

Has anyone experienced similar lopsidedness with the new Pioneers or 4iiii units built around the newer Shimano cranksets?
Interesting. I just bought a Stages DA L/R for my Venge Pro, will have to test this out!

Isn't the whole point of 1x13/14/15 etc to have smaller jumps? If you need any more range than is provided by a 50/34 - 11/28 then I suspect closer spacing isn't going to solve the real problem going on .

The real problem is how much SRAM FDs (and Rotor’s FD) suck...especially with non-circular chainrings. It has nothing to do with range or how weak you think we are.

Interesting part about the clutch in the rd (second part of the article). Seems to be in the RED as well as Eagle version. I am wondering if there will be a short/long cage version of the RED rd or if they are going the same way as campy on the 12sp.

Disappointing to see a chain guide.

It's a CX bike. I doubt you'll need one on a road bike, but I'd probably run one anyway.

More interestingly, why Aqua Blue didn't run a chain guide if it was such an issue?

I doubt it was. IMO, the issue was Rick Delaney.

I don’t have to run one on my XC bike, defo shouldn’t have to for CX where it risks getting gunked up, may as well have a front mech (not a SRAM one though. Obvs).

Chainguides are all over pro CX. Maybe it's part K-Edge sponsorship, maybe not. Sven Nys's Boone from a couple years back had a chainguide made out of a DA chainring (Treks already have integrated inside chain catchers.)

Sven's bike

Anyway, not seeing an issue... It's not even a SRAM part and there's no indication that it's a requirement.

That bike doesn’t have a clutch so needs a chain guide, like I said, disappointing. I spent years *f##k* about with chainguides when I was racing DH, I’ll avoid ‘em these days if I can. If a 1x system that’s not on an Enduro/DH bike needs a guide I’d rather just run a front mech, at least I can run a close range cassette then.

Edit - if he’s running it it’s a requirement

Wout isn't using a chain guide so I doubt it's a requirement... but if J-Pows is, I guess it's not as good at holding the chain tight as the Force 1 mechanical rear derailleur.
