SRAM 2019?
Moderator: robbosmans
I was hoping in much better hoods. Those things are are ugly/big as the current version of eTap.
SRAM used to lead the way in terms of design and ergonomics. Shimano used to have giant hoods.
Now the situation has reversed, whilst Shimano has retained technological excellent it also gained excellent design and ergonomics.
The sram eTap hoods look like 105 5500sti from 2008!

I was just about to post a question regarding this but I think you somewhat answer it, anyway:
I'm certainly no 11sp etap hydro expert but are eyeballing experts able to discern if the 12sp hoods are larger, smaller or the same size as the 11sp?
Aesthetic maybe not so good, but I find the eTap HRD hood very comfortable for me.

Meh. Whenever a new groupset comes out there is a chorus of voices stating that it is ugly. Fast forward 2 years and it will seem normal. How can a chain be ugly FFS?
Rear mech looks chunky which doesn't bode well for the weight, but the move to 10T and consequent smaller chainrings, now ?direct mount, should save them a decent amount of weight.

I bet with logos and graphics added the whole group will look "lighter" and less industrial.petromyzon wrote: Rear mech looks chunky which doesn't bode well for the weight, but the move to 10T and consequent smaller chainrings, now ?direct mount, should save them a decent amount of weight.
Lamprey mate, it's all in the eye of the beholder and to my aging bulbs it's very f*ckin' ugly!!

Looks like the casssette in the photo is the 10-26t (10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23-26.)
I do wonder about the 10-33t. Is it 10-11-12-13-14-16-18-20-23-26-29-33 or 10-11-12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25-29-33? The latter seems more typical of SRAM.
it looks like direct mount hanger design is not compatible with 10Tpetromyzon wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:19 amRear mech looks chunky which doesn't bode well for the weight, but the move to 10T and consequent smaller chainrings, now ?direct mount, should save them a decent amount of weight.
shimano have to kill direct mount mtb hanger with new XTR RD, because they needed 10T

pair 10-33 with 46/36 CX chain rings and we got similar range of 50/34 x 11-32, which I'm currently using. I can keep using my DFour91 GxP and not to DUB crank...TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 9:20 amthprice wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:30 amMore pics of SRAM 12 speed at TDU

Thinking the 10-33t ditches the 15t so it can retain a 3t jump from 3rd to 2nd cog. The 25->29t and 19->22t jumps would be a bit much. I'd go for a 48/34 chainring pair.

So will the front mech actually work or is that thing we’re seeing just a chain guide with an integrated battery storage position made to look like a front mech...
Good one I bet the 2nd option will remain as it is nowMonkeyfudger wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 1:14 pmSo will the front mech actually work or is that thing we’re seeing just a chain guide with an integrated battery storage position made to look like a front mech...

I know everyone is saying the rings are direct mount, but I'm not so sure.
Looking at the pictures, the part of the arm at the spindle looks 'separate' from the Quarq module thing sticking out.
So are the rings/Quarq integrated? Are the arms swappable?
Surely you don't need a whole new Quarq just to swap chainrings...there's gotta be some way to swap rings (and arms) without needing a new Quarq "spider".
