I prefer the JRC components superlight expander
https://www.jrc-components.com/products ... t-expander
It has more points of contact...but is about 6g heavier
There a few threads devoted to this very subject
Also quite a bit on YouTube

I have the similar boat anchor in my BMC. After this post, I decided to leave it as is.

I read through that and watched the two videos. The first one the guy says that the expander plug in the giant overdrive setup is no good or not good enough for him? Not really much else in that thread other than opinions and light weight options.
I think if I just make sure that the expander plug is where the stem clamps the steer tube and I don’t hulk the stem bolts down it should be ok? Maybe keep the metal sleeve?

I have the extralite on my 2020 TCR. I don't think it's advertised as OD2 but the instructions it comes with says it can do 1-1/4 (27.2mm)
Unfortunately the ID on my fork was 27.4, it was able to expand enough to not move by hand but once I started tightening the cap, the expander was being pulled up. Smh
My soloution, I put a single layer of clear packing tape covering the first 2" of the inside of my fork. When measured now, it comes out to 27.3. Fits snug as a bug and I am able to torque the cap to spec.
After my packing tape shim install.
Not sure how safe this, it's cold af here in NY right now so I haven't ridden with it yet but it seems solid enough.

Can't photograph as it's installed, but this is the thing I was on about 'aircap' expander plug. Don't know exact weight I'm afraid

Yea, im going to remove the Extralite expander I just ordered that Carbon Ti combo. That 5.8g Extralite expander is so tempting but on my first ride with it i didn't like the feedback in the bars. I'm not going to risk it, I'll just have to eat that few g difference.
Front end feels a little less responsive but I'm gonna chalk it up to that tiny ultralite expander. I don't think it's able to apply enough expansion pressure and it almost feels like the fork tube it's flexing if that makes any sense.
15.1 current cap and screw
5.8 extralite expander
Total-20.9
Carbon ti expander 17g*
Carbon to cap/bolt 6g*
Total-23g*
So with the carbon Ti cap and screw it only puts me 2.1g over my current setup with the Extralite expander and factory cap and screw. Im always down to take risk but potentially snapping my fork over 2.1g isnt worth it to me.
Ill just put the Extralite expnder on my Klein
