I would typically agree on right tool for the job but in this case, the job can be done easily with no tool at all. I've never worried about which chain ring I'm on or which cassette cog. I install the link, rotate the crank to get the link on the upper tensioned section of chain, and push down on the pedals. Done, in likely less time but with the same exact result as using a tool. Now, the removal pliers are something I'd never be without and if I didn't already own a pair and if the dual-use style didn't cost that much more, I'd likely buy them just because. But I do, so I won't.
