Rotor Aldhu

Also because KMC 11 chains undergo extra chamfering - makes them very very good for 1x conversions on 11 speed stuff (less likely to get ghost shifts or ticking on adjacent cogs particularly with extreme angles.wltz wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 10:20 pmI've always recommended KMC chains for non-standard setups, that's what I use. My Rotor rings have never dropped the chain in normal operation, it has only ever happened multi-shifting under load when the drive side crank is between 1 and 4 o'clock, and I consider this to be a user error. Having used Shimano 12s chain with 11s drivetrains, I fail to understand the benefits, especially taking into account it being so prone to rusting. KMC chains are just better at accommodating non-standard Shimano setups, probably because KMC designed them to work with components from different vendors.pushpush wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 8:31 pmThe more I dig into this, the more I suspect that the rotor ring doesn't mate with the 12s chain well enough to effectively retain it at certain chain line angles. Rotor claims that these rings are compatible with shimano 2x12, so I would expect the 12s chain to be a non-issue, but it sure seems to be one.
The rotor weight savings are attractive but I'm not sure it is worth the trouble.

Will the shimano rings mount to the rotor spider, or does that require something special? I found some posts saying it won't fit.LanceLegstrong wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 9:15 pmEasy. Rotor cranks with Shimano chainrings. Best of both worlds. Boom.

It won’t fit.
Fitting of Shimano chainrings requires power meter spider which has no milled shape.(rotor spider is designed to work with their chainrings only).

Not the Rotor spider. But there are a few different spiders available that will work. Stone make one.pushpush wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 6:47 amWill the shimano rings mount to the rotor spider, or does that require something special? Well, I have tried just about everything and while the Rotor chainrings work ok most of the time, they continue to be less than 100% reliable. I still get an occasional chain drop, always on the outside of the big ring. Sometimes induced by a gear change, other times it happens in response to quick start/stop pedaling or bumps in the road. Upon the suggestion of Rotor support, I've played with adjusting the chainline in 0.5mm increments. Despite numerous adjustments, it has not made any difference. They also suggested I go back to using an 11s chain, which is not of any interest to me. Also seems like an odd suggestion for chainrings that they claim are 12s compatible.
I gave up. The rotor chainrings arent worth the trouble. I just ordered up a spider from AliX to mount shimano rings. Not the outcome I was hoping for, but I'll be happy to have a more confidence-inspiring drivetrain again. I will try the Stone spider first and see how it goes.
The Aldhu Carbon cranks paired with the BBI30mm BB are quite nice so far. This feels like a solid upgrade.

Can anyone report on successfully using 30mm axle Aldhu cranks with the standard road axle and Hambini BB386evo?
I'm finding the Aldhu has just less than 90.5mm between the crank arms when torqued up, so does not spin freely.
I've 2 other Aldhu 30mm setups on other bikes which are excellent - & trying to establish if this is an out-of-spec axle or a compatibility issue.
Workarounds otherwise are thinner bearing shields or getting the offset Rotor axle + spacers.

I use standard 24mm axle and aldhu crankarms with hambini bb86 racing bottom bracket, no issues, extra spacers needed.
Thanks Xabi. It's the specific case of 30mm axle and BB386 I need help with. In my case it seems the tapered Rotor axle means the distance between crank arms is slightly less than 90.5mm when torqued up. We're talking fractions of a mm but it's enough to mean too much lateral preload on the bearings so the cranks don't spin freely (and in fact seem to have notched one set of bearings already).
Both the Hambini bb and Rotor Aldhu cranks are excellent. But in my experience at least - and it could just be that the taper on my axle is out of spec, I have ordered another to try - they are not playing nicely together.

Was going to recommend Spider power meter like Sigeyi with white label.
But then I see Favero Assioma in the reflection...
