No future shock? Shocking! That thing seems dubious to me.

This is a Tarmac. He was on a Roubaix. All the pros were running a special FutureShok with an adjustment dial for a top-cap. This allowed them to adjust the spring from soft to virtually locked out.
Toward the end of the race, he borrowed a hex key from his team car because apparently his stem/steerer clamp bolts were loosening up. The shot of his cockpit showed the dial in detail.
Another key difference of the Pro Roubaix...they have a longer/lower geometry. Kind of like Trek's H1 vs H2, but less extreme.

Just watched the video. Amazing that he was able to tighten those bolts while racing. I wonder how he knew they needed tightening? Seems like the kind of thing that you wouldn’t notice while riding, and that would fail catastrophically if it were to get too loose.
On a side note, I hadn’t seen that adjustment knob for the future shock before. Seems like just what that device needs to give it broader appeal. Im sure they’ll roll those out to consumers in short order.

Why do you suppose he went with the mechanical group set?
