They'll both work, but I'd strongly recommend the maximum smoothness cables (CG-FRD700) despite the massive overpricing. They really do improve shifting quite a lot.

CG-FRD700 is not for brakes though.

Yup, sorry, misread the original question. Same brake cables, new shift cables.

Oooh! Haven't unboxed my spares yet, I was blindly assuming that just like the predecessor (that costs less man half) the kit would include brake cables as well. It kind of makes sense considering hydro brakes, but the price is even more out of this world for shifters only. Guess I should buy some brake cables then to accompany my next shifter cable replacement, definitely wouldn't want to ride brake cables until they break.

I know us flat landers are just a minority and should be happy that we are allowed to buy Campagnolo, but the Miche 14/29 and 16/29 cassettes are out there now [thanks to bm0p700f/www.thecycleclinic.co.uk]. I plan on pairing a 14/29 to my 55/42 and hope that it I like the spacing. I really can't ride 30+ for long so I should be good.

Any idea what to check when the chain drops off the big chainring (usually outside over the crank arm towards the pedal) when going downhill (so higher speed, but not so high actually) over a bump? No pedalling needed, no shifting performed. The basic setup and shifting is fine, chain length is correct.

If the FD cage is parallel to the rings, then probably your FD outer limit is not set correctly. Shift to the big ring and the smallest cog, then adjust the outer limit screw to make sure the outside of the FD cage is resting just a hair beyond the chain.

Im 3 weeks into my Camp 12 spd SR EPS groupset and I am having real problems with noise. Im hoping someone here may be able to offer some thoughts re my problems.

I have 12-29 52-36 and the rear hub is a CK R45 with Campag hub-body. In the larget 52 chain-ring the cassette is completely silent when using the top half of the cassette (the darker/bronze coloured single piece part of the block) but the last 3-4 smallest rings before the final 12 cog/smallest ring are all really noisy. The smallest final 12 cog is completely silent. The noise sounds like the chain is rubbing in these gears.

In the smallest chain-ring, all of the gears are noisy.

Using a different CK rear wheel also with a SR 12 spd 12-29 cassette, the drive-train is noisy (same kind of chain-rubbing type of noise) across all gears.

The groupset was installed and set up by a 5 star Campag mechanic. He has suggested I bring the bike back which I will do. In the meantime Id be really grateful for any thoughts.

Thank you!

Campy makes a 12-29 12-speed cassette?

I'd say it's pretty close already, but I may try to get it a tiny bit closer.

AFAIK only Recon/Edco make such cassette, but that's a monoblock one so I'm wondering what does he mean.

Hard to offer advise when the information is sketchy at best. Is there a typo because most know that Campagnolo does not make a 12/29 cassette. Or is it because there is an aftermarket cassette which means all noises could be from that part.

Time will tell what the facts are.

Apologies Tomata, Mag and Butcher, I meant to type 11-29 and yes Im only using Campag SR throughout, no after-market parts.

Sounds like the rear deraileur needs to be learned again. It is a tricky procedure, easier to do, just tricky to find where the deraileur is happy before pressing the button to learn the position.

Have you trimmed it on a ride to see if the noise goes away? If trimming makes the noise go away, you're heading in the right direction.

I am thinking of replacing the bearings in the Campagnolo 12s ultra torque crank. The drive side crank does not have a hole, what type of tool is the best to use to replace the bearing?
