I agree. This sounds like BS. There is probably some other reason.

I think you need to re-check those ...
Other riders prefer different cassettes? Why isn't Caleb Ewan allowed to have his own preference?A lot of riders on Shimano cassette use 11-30 which is 21-24-27-30, it has bigger jumps than any of those two.
Whoops, thanks. Indeed, the 16 is in the wrong line. Post edited.
Correct one is:
11sp 11-27 has ......15-17-19-21-23-25-27
12sp 11-29 has.15-16-17-19-21-23-26-29
Yes, he can. I'm just pointing out how picky he comparing to some other pros.
Ewan can have preferences. I just don't buy the cyclingnews article's reason, not at all. Maybe Campagnolo won't or can't make those fancy shifters for him? Maybe he's superstitious?
Yeah, it's a weird reason. But, does it really matter why he prefers what he does?
Most likely it's the 23-26 jump [edit: oh! and/or the 15-17 jump] that he doesn't like then. I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that "the 27" does not reference the actual sprocket but the cassette.
But it's not impossible either. Perhaps he has developed some "brain off zen survival mode" for climbing that is tuned to that particular ratio and the resulting interplay of steepness, rpm and torque would simply not feel right on any other ratio gearing? That wouldn't be entirely out-of-character for a sprinter I think, at least less unlikely than in any other breed of pro cyclist.

What the butcher said.
The mechanic says the first thing coming off his mind, the “journalist” writes an “article”Butcher wrote:See! The pros are not happy with the 12 speed cassettes too.

i definitely agree there is an elment of comfort involved. i recently bought a set of SR12, and the shifters just dont fit me compared to my SR11eps/centaur on my other bikes. the lever blades are just that little bit too large to sit comfortably between my fingers when grip tightly.
if ratio is a thing, perhaps Miche can come to rescue like they did with Pogacar's TT bike.
Some say pour 10ml water out of your bottle to save that last bit of the weight. Sorry, i go one step further, i tend to the rider off my bikes.
n+1...14 last time i checked, but i lost count
