Is anyone else find that SR12 mechanical is a stupidly loud/noisey drivetrain? Further, the RD is impossible to get noise free across the whole cassette. Its driving me nuts, I almost want to go back to 11spd. Any tips for making it silent? Shifting is perfect, its just loud and impossible to get perfectly in tune across the whole cassette. Yes, the hanger is straight. The noise is definitley from the RD.

Have heard similar from others. I personally think 11s was the limit for quiet mechanical drivetrains. 12s and up.. you probably need electronic smarts that will get (and keep) things perfect.zappafile123 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:42 amIs anyone else find that SR12 mechanical is a stupidly loud/noisey drivetrain? I think you need to brush up on your maths mate!neeb wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:22 pmAny chance it won't be as heavy compared to 11sp EPS as 12sp mechanical is compared 11sp mechanical?
Once you take into account the limited cassette options mechanical 12sp Record is nearly 200g heavier than 11sp Record! That's just ridiculous. Admittedly with SR the weight penalty for going to 12sp is "only" a bit over 100g.
My hope is that the Record and SR ergos and derailleurs will be very close in weight, and not such a big weight increase over 11sp EPS. Running a P2M the crankset difference between Record and SR doesn't come into it, although the 12sp Record brakes are very heavy next to the SR ones (and more than 30g heavier than the 11sp Record brakes!).
Record 12 with a pressfit BB comes in at 2083g compared to Record 11 2008 and Super Record 12 is 2043 versus 1881 for 11 speed. So Record 12 is a paltry 75g heavier and Super Record is the porker at 162g heavier.
Here's the back-of-envelope table I made when 12sp first came out to allow me to compare weights of potential builds. Weights from various sources but mostly the campy official ones I think.ultimobici wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 8:43 amI think you need to brush up on your maths mate!neeb wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:22 pmAny chance it won't be as heavy compared to 11sp EPS as 12sp mechanical is compared 11sp mechanical?

I based this on my own needs in terms of gearing - i.e. I prefer a 12-27 or even 12-25 cassette (so have specified 12-27 weights for 11sp) but would be forced to go with an 11-29 cassette if I went to 12 speed.
The cassette weight adds a lot to 12sp, although it's a little misleading for SR as I wouldn't personally ever use an 11sp SR cassette due to wear and expense - I find that the 11sp Record with three Ti sprockets is a good compromise.
But even ignoring the cassette weights, 12sp Record is about 150g heavier than 2014 11sp Record and getting on for 200g heavier than 2013 11 sp Record.. SR isn't so bad, about 50g heavier than 2014 SR and 90g heavier than 2013 SR.
Would welcome any error corrections or real-world weights for components.
It looks like campy is just getting continually heavier and continually more expensive. I suspect this has got more to do with cutting manufacturing costs while raisng RRPs than with number of gears..

Not quite. Actually is extremely smooth and quite in the builds I’ve seen so far (6 from the top of my head)zappafile123 wrote:Is anyone else find that SR12 mechanical is a stupidly loud/noisey drivetrain? I find it quite noisy when on the big chainring at the front & about 5th or 6th smallest and larger sprockets at the rear. The noise seems to come mainly from the place where the chain makes contact with the chainring - where FD is located - but it isn't due to FD cage rubbing the chain. It seems the chain reaches certain bigger angle at that contact point causing an undesired noise. Some better lube might help silencing it which is what I'm going to try once the weather improves.
^Just a note to the absolutely horrible 12 speed group weight: 12 speed requires a minimum of 110 chain links, so the total is even higher (and I couldn't care less). Must add that I appreciate the comparison, and that I've always used Chorus cassettes and FD with my 2009-2013 SR.
I've barely have had the chance to ride my Record 12 group yet, but have noticed that the FD trim 1) has to be relearned and 2) that the FD controls are about as stiff as my Record Ti 8 speed of yore.

Yep, front shifting feels quite stiff at the lever. It does loosen up after a few 100km however. The only improvement with 12spd is the slightly snappier rear shifting. Aside from that its a disappointment.Kjetil wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 3:37 pm^Just a note to the absolutely horrible 12 speed group weight: 12 speed requires a minimum of 110 chain links, so the total is even higher (and I couldn't care less). I noticed in the last couple of days that on the main campagnolo website, the only electronic groups showing now are Super Record and Record EPS 11, no Chorus or Athena EPS anymore when viewing the Electronic groups...
It's that different connector that Athena/Chorus EPS uses, it's too much of a pain even for Campag now. To me it seemed like a way to make an artificial distinction between the lower and higher EPS groups. I've always assumed that the signalling and the wires are the same across all the groups. (That better be true as I've just bought some EPS hydro levers which I'm intending to wire into an otherwise Athena v2 EPS system via some judicious soldering.)ParisCarbon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 3:57 pmI noticed in the last couple of days that on the main campagnolo website, the only electronic groups showing now are Super Record and Record EPS 11, no Chorus or Athena EPS anymore when viewing the Electronic groups...

Just curious the concensus on the 11 ring setup with 12s... Ive got my 2014 Cannondale Super Six with SR Mech 11s, but it has an SRM SiSL2 with FSA Campag 11s rings for the 130 BCD.. I know Im taking a "chance" on doing anything , but has anyone out there given the 11s crank with 12s a good beating?
