Strange that no-one here even mention the issue the guys riding MTB have had riding 12 speed.
Chains tend to snap/ brake :-(

Funny talking about the lack of Campy ratios on bikes.. the 3 other guys I train with regularly all are running Campy.. 1 EPS, 2 Mech.. Im the odd duck on Di2... but moving to EPS

In my club I’m the only one on Campag. Most guys buy off the peg bikes with Ultegra Di2.
The “Campag on my Italian frame” crowd is small and all mechanical in my parts.

Same here. We just moved to Las Cruces, NM and most people in the club have Treks simply because the Trek shop is the best roadie shop in town. Specialized is probably the 2nd most popular brand. I ride a Colango but there is one other guy with an older Colnago Dream and 10 speed. Nobody else has Campy on my local group ride.

From P2Max today... just to confirm my post from over the weekend.. the current NG/NGEco PMs work with 12s.. you just need 12s rings... this would mean nothing will change with the SRM either... I assume Campag will just rebadge the arm "12" or something more generic and non specific so you could use 11/12 and have no "specific" branding

I live in FL. Locally, everybody rides what the local store tells them is the current greatest, which translates to whatever they are making the most money selling. They used to push Litespeed, so everyone was riding one. Then, it was Pinnarello, and now Specialized and Trek with another Pinnarello resurgence. There is a Cannondale dealer in another shop locally, and there is one single guy riding one that is about 10 years old. They don’t push as hard and sell you for the sake of selling. They used to push Chitmano, so everyone was on it. Now they push SRAM, and so guess what everyone has? Nobody can change a tube either, so when gears need adjusting or they simply need a new chain or cassette they go to the shop and come out with new cables, chains, cassettes, adjustments, blah blah if not an entirely new bikes. No exaggeration!!

I’m the only guy I’ve seen using Campagnolo locally. In the last 12 years here, I’ve only seen 2 others. I’m also only one of 2 that I know that does anything himself to his bikes or even have tools at home. I buy everything online as I can’t stand the shop’s mentality or staff.

That's good information thanks for all the updates on this. I'm still in a quandary in some ways as I really like the new crankset and would like that when I buy new kit for next year but that would mean going with a pedal based power meter. But I'm a Time pedal user and not overly keen on moving to Look style pedal power meters. I'm discounting stages as when I tried one before a gen 2 it was wildly out compared with my 2x P2Ms and a quarq. I would definitely want 12 speed or something on my cranks if I had 12 speed kit though and went with P2M but then I'm guessing the spider design won't change at all from what it is now. 6 months odd to decide what to do. If only Time and P2M would collaborate in the way that Look and Srm have!

@ParisCarbon Did they say anything regarding the crankarm redesign to match the 12s visual style? It certainly isn't going to look nice in the current state.

Do they? I ride with at least a couple of dozen different guys (and gals) on 12 speed. None of them have snapped a chain yet that i'm aware of.
Seems to be holding up remarkably well.

Campag on the other hand is like rocking horse shit here. I only ride with one person who has it. Has it on two bikes, his "best" race bike and his "high days and holidays" bike (A C60 last time i rode with him.)

Has to do a 200km round trip to get to the nearest campag competent mechanic.
Hence everything else he has is running Shimano.

Was told same design... I wonder if there will just be a "generic" label on the crank now rather than 11 or 12... that way its non specific to the drivetrain..

@ParisCarbon Thanks. I guess I'll ask them how is it going to look like now - that having "11 speed" there with the 12s groupset would be odd.

@mattr That's the problem with those smaller companies. With Campy you're often better off being your own mechanic, at least partially. :-D

Yeah, i used to work on campag regularly ~15 years ago. But it was just a pain to get hold of parts, more expensive and with 90% of what i was doing being Shimano (which was consistent across the range, and simple, and robust), i just stopped bothering. (It was only a hobby at the time, just sent campag owners to the nearest shop and sold off the few campag specific tools i had.

Alot of people playing here are in North America where campagnolo has little presence. Over here in the u.k your in Campagnolo second biggest market and there kit is quite popular. In our small island there are 5 official distributors.

I also think people have missed the point about 12 speed. It is alot more than an extra cog. Start with the rear mech. In order to improve shifting they have kept the jockey wheel close to the cassette and limited cassette choice in order to keep it close. That alloy 12 speed to work. The cables are backwards compatible and are more flexible. The new chain technology has been tested for a while on the 11 speed non series chain. There's a bunch of other stuff too that adds up to incremental improvements like from 10 speed record to 11 speed. If these improvements did not happen we would still be on 8 or 9 speed.

On Campagnolo spares I find them very easy to get hold off. But I'm not in North America.

A while ago p2Max had kind of stated to me in a conversation that Campy had wished they had got on top of this earlier.. so I guess what we are seeing now is the backlash of.. well... what we have works.... and its kind of late now to start a fresh redesign phase... heck the 2019 seasons starts up again in 4 months and you know the campy teams are gonna be on 12s... Id suspect there will be appropriate label on the crank, or a generic label covering both... I guess SRM was right 2 months ago when they told me there was no need or plan to redesign the unit.. they must have known something...

Hahahaha! I must be one of the 2 other guys you are referring to.... :D Your description is so on point and true... Just wait till disc brakes are the norm. They are gonna come out of those shops with way more stuff than "new cables, chains, cassettes, adjustments..."
