Campagnolo 12-Speed

Maybe nothing but my Chorus 12 groupset shifter cables came with silver inner cables and my Record 12 inners are black?

All 12 speed groups should come with the black maximum smoothness cables. Without them, you could have cable friction problems, particularly with internally routed cables.

From memory the Chorus 12 cables were already installed in the shifters in the box...as are the Record 12?

I've assumed this was a process change to avoid people kinking the derailleur cable as previously discussed in this thread.

So I've ordered myself a KMC 12 Speed DLC chain, just for the sake of a bike that I thought a black chain would look great on, and to try it out. I measured the chain when it arrived, the KMC data sheed states the pins are 5.2mm (which is supposed to be just 0.05mm more than a Campy chain). My measurement came at close to 5.6mm! I was wondering if it's maybe the wrong chain but it states 12 speed on it. It's supposed to fit SRAM but that chain is also 5.2mm. I know this is Campy thread, but I was wondering if someone has one of those chains and can confirm this is the correct width? I would really want to try it out, but I'm wondering if maybe I should return it as I don't know if this would work...

I could be wrong on this but I think 12-speed MTB chains are wider than 12-speed road chains. I wonder if the KMC chain is meant to be cross-compatible with road and MTB, hence the extra width. For example, Sram sells two different kind of chains for 12-speed, one for MTB (Eagle) and one for road. The chains are not cross-conpatible. So if the KMC chain fits Sram, which version does it fit? Road or MTB? I think this is where the discrepancy is.

I was thinking the same thing, but CERAMICSPEED is selling their 12 speed chain in the UFO configuration as Campagnolo compatible chain! I don't think they would be misinforming people especially when the UFO Chain is supposed to be a high performance part.

SRAM definately has added a level of confusion by introducing a chain (the axs flat top chain) that has larger diameter rollers than usual, only no one can answer the simple question. What diamter? - Were it me I would stick to the SRAM chain with a SRAM cassette. A KMC may fit or not skip, but the cassette is expensive and im guessing not optimal roller diameters might acclerate wear. That, or simply not get AXS to begin with. So far im on 10! speed and enjoy the cheap and plenty supply of spares.

The new AXS chain has a maximum roller diameter of 5/16 inch, as defined by the English chain standard for a #40 chain. Normal bike chains are #41, with a maximum roller diameter of 0.306 inch.

Where did you get those numbers from? Standard chains are well known, but the axs?

I have measured a few KMC and Shimano chains. In reality the rollers are smaller (new) than nominal 0.306 (7.77 mm). More like 7.65 mm if memory serves me right. Is the true/measured Ø of a axs chain roller posted aywhere?

The roller diameters are maximum, not nominal. I measured the two AXS chains I have and found them to be about .001 inch less than the maximum, just like a Campy chain.

I got the numbers backwards. Normal chains are #41 and the AXS is #40.

Google ansi chain standards.

Well I've just tried the KMC DLC 12 chain and all I can say - it's a no go from what I see. Chain is quite loud and can't really dial it in properly whenever it's even slightly cross chaining (it rubs on the sides of the cogs)...

On another note - can anyone tell me what grease does Campagnolo use on their freehub pawls when they construct the wheel? My Bora WTO45 were super silent when I started using them, then became loud and I can't seem to get the freehub quiet again...

I do not know but I bought some Morgan Blue “Campa Grease” for my old Shamals and that seems do do the job.
