Campagnolo 12-Speed

Yes crankset is definitely Power2Max which still exist with the 11s design.
And I don't really like the way the rear brake cable is guided from the top tube to brake calipers, however there aren't probably much better options available on that frame.

No matter how fabulous a player thinks he is, the team is the boss. MoviStar owns Valverde. If Campagnolo told MoviStar to use 12 speed, then MoviStar would use 12 speed. And Valverde would ride it or he would be out of a job and most likely his career would be over since he is so old now.

Now I will admit I forgot electronic 12 speed is not out yet. So that is the real reason MoviStar and Valverde still use electronic 11 speed. Old stuff.

If Campagnolo told MoviStar to use 12 speed, then MoviStar would use 12 speed.
What makes you think that Campagnolo has this level of power over Movistar?

Well, yeah, except for that bit. Though my ~20 year old mavics take an 11 speed cassette. And have no marks.

Thats because Mavic rear wheels were redesigned to the then new Campagnolo geometry for 9-speed. The freehub for Shimano of course had to be as wide as the one for Campag. The rest is spacers and of course good choice of metal for the freehub.

Movistar, Campagnolo are European companies. Furthermore Campag is not a employer, just a sponsor.

Campag’s newest is 12 mechanical but Movistar prefers EPS. And EPS is still in prototype stage for 12s.

Remember Ullrich and his frankenergopowers, with the gen 1 body and gen 2 10s internals? Campag didn’t gave a toss, and Telekom was their biggest gig in the pro peloton at the time.

For anyone wondering about the labeling of the "12" on the crank, P2Max had responded to me and I never noticed, but the crank arms will have the "12" label and be available early in the new year...

Riders in many European teams, within boundaries, have more say than you might think in what equipment they use. Team managements are, broadly, responsive to strongly held views, especially by key riders - and work with riders and sponsors to keep the team functional.

That doesn't mean that a rider can say "well, the team may be sponsored by "x" but I am going to use "y" but it does mean that riders can sometimes express a strong preference for specific items from a sponsors range if an accommodation can be reached with the sponsor.

Team managements have to manage risk (so they may have an opinion as to whether to employ a new piece of kit or not and the extent of the risk that represents) but they also have to be responsive to the requirements of a sponsor as well ... in many ProTour teams, the frame and equipment sponsors are not only providing hardware but they may also contribute to the cash budget, either directly or indirectly. That will also have it's influence.

Everyone involved understands that part of the job of a sponsored team is to test-bed new technologies or other "what if" scenarios, which is why looking at what kit the pros use is not necessarily a good indicator of what, as consumers, would be a good idea.

Sponsorship is a two-way street and both the teams and the sponsors are aware of the symbiosis ...

Here is my C64 newly upgraded to record 12s. Not sure if the topic conversation is appropriate at the moment to allow such a pic but I can’t go back 81 pages lol...sorry..

hahaha Ive been trying to hit up individual teams/riders on campy on twitter for pix.... have seen nothing.. campy is obviously keeping the screws turned down on this one!
