So this happened on my second ride on my new bike - 5km in. Not happy...ruined a pair of bibs as well found the shard of carbon fiber embedded in them

Wow that sucks...

Csrbon splinters in that region is just scary.

Was it riding through a pothole? Or nothing much when it let go?

Rma time.. Interested to see what they say.
Was considering this before going for a Berk Lupina

Not sure when it broke but I notice my bibs catching after I went through a patch of potholes. I do remember my bibs catching when I was on the trainer last week so I’m thinking there was a defect.

I bought it through BikeBug on eBay and emailed them yesterday. We’ll see what they say. I put my old saddle (Selle Italia SLR Flow Kit Carbonio) on from my Cervelo S5 for now - I can say the SP-01 was more comfortable. Not sure if I’ll go with a replacement SP-01 and try to get a refund.

Bummer about your saddle, I had an SLR that broke at the rail about 4 years ago and while I had to go through hoops Selle Italia finally warrantied it. Hopefully it goes smoother for you.

Thats rubbish. Full carbon base or just carbon reinforced?

Im testing an SP01 with carbon rails (not full carbon) since 10 days; way too early to give an opinion as Im starting to get used to the shape these days.
One thing I can say is that sometimes my "family jewellery" get unconfortable with the cut shape edges in the middle when sitting down from standing up.

BikeBug just emailed me - they shipped out a replacement saddle. Hesitant on using this saddle as I don’t know if was a defective saddle to begin with or if it’ll happen again. I’ve just came back from a quick 20km ride today and no issues with my old SLR Kit Carbonio saddle - same road with the potholes so I’m leaning towards the SP-01 being defective.

I never had problems with my Selle Italia with carbon rails so far.
I hope it is just a defective saddle.

So 500km later, no issues. Looks like I had a defective saddle

I understand this saddle flex in the rear, but does it also flex in the middle (sag under pressure)?
I dislike saddles that flex in the base, i like a flat saddle that remains stiff.
SP-01 in boost version could be interesting if the base is stiff, part from the give in rear from pedalling.
Bikes:

Ax Lightness Vial EVO Race (2019.01.03)
Open *UP* (2016.04.14)
Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)

Ex bike; Vial EVO D, Vial EVO Ultra, Scott Foil, Paduano ti bike.

No it doesn’t flex in the middle of the saddle.

I am wanting to try this saddle, but not sure if I should go with the Boost model and what width.
My sit bones measure about 115mm. The 130mm saddle seems really very narrow, so I am thinking of the non-Boost 142mm.
I figure the non-Boost is a bit narrower and also will give me space to move around.
Also is there any padding in the sit bone area or is it rock hard?

Thanks
